A photographic journal of places and people. All Set for the Dragon Kiln Firing. May 27, 2010. My teacups, bowls and pitchers are glazed with either white satin, shino or ash glazes! I added a sprinkling of banyan tree ash, hoping that it will create interesting effects on the surfaces. This time all our clay pieces filled up 5 chambers! 8211; anything can happen…. November 27, 2008. Wood-firing @ Thow Kwang Dragon Kiln. We did a 3-days 2 nights wood-firing @ Thow Kwang Pottery from 14 to 16 November 2008. The firing was planned for 61 hours but we only managed 55 hours. Nonetheless, we were able to reach the desired temperature and managed to do 2 bouts of salting at the 4th and 5th stoke holes. Fire, together with other reactive agents, is the transforming force. Below are snapshots of some effects arising out of the wood firing:.

8211; anything can happen…. Mixed ash glaze over clay-covered surface; the interior has an interesting crater-filled texture. Ash glazed, clay-coated. Oatmeal coloured, pin-holing effect on the pot shoulder, interior is glazed with mixed ash glaze. Beautiful red hue with pin-holing texture, saggar-fired with orange peels. Agate wares that are deliberately eroded by water during bone-dry stage. A very tactile experience, pots are extended in length by the rotary miirrors on which they sit.
