Hello for the last time. In this final week of classes, we studied Rachmaninoff, one of my favorite Russians composers. Much to my surprise I learned for most of the early 20. Well, what a lovely way to end the semester with Rachmaninoff’s music. Hope you have enjoyed these blogs. It has certainly been a wonderful experience reviewing some of the best pieces from one of the greatest ages for piano music! This was a rather light week, as we only have two pieces to discuss. Brahms - pianogirl033

http://pianogirl033.livejournal.com/4058.html

The pieces found in Op. 118 are comprised of four Intermezzos, a Romanze, and a Ballade. The. Intermezzo in A minor. Is highly arpeggiated and quite lush in its harmonic progressions. Personally, my favorite piece of this opus is the. Intermezzo in A major. As it features a gorgeous lyric melody and wonderful chromatic harmonies. The. Intermezzo in F minor. Intermezzo in E-flat minor,. Ballade in G minor. In Opus 10, Brahms composed. Ballade No. 1 in D minor. Begins quite somber in tone, featuring a lot ...

http://pianogirl033.livejournal.com/3585.html

Well this week’s listening assignment was like going to a buffet and sampling everything, as we studied Grieg, Franck, Saint-Saens, Alkan, and Chabrier. So, eat up. The four lyric pieces I selected were; Arietta, Watchman’s Song, Norwegian Melody and Patriotic Song. The name of the pieces really captures the feel of the song. Grieg was a master at the miniature forms, in that he was able to communicate ideas with only a few bars of music. Arietta. Which really wasn’t my favorite; however, it was much lov...

Liszt - pianogirl033

http://pianogirl033.livejournal.com/3122.html

Let’s start with some of his etudes. In general, etudes focus on a particular technique; however, Liszt quite successfully takes these technical exercises and turns them into grand pieces. For example, his Transcendental Etudes No. 10 and No. 12. Next, let’s talk about his rhapsodies. Most people are pretty familiar with Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody. Yet, honestly I prefer his Spanish Rhapsody. Sorry, I’m probably making no sense, but either, way these rhapsodies are great works. The last set of pieces we ...

April 10th, 2008 - pianogirl033

http://pianogirl033.livejournal.com/2008/04/10

This was a rather light week, as we only have two pieces to discuss. Faure's. Barcarolle No. 5 in F-sharp minor. Nocturne No. 13. The titles alone remind one of Chopin, yet Faure's music is very far from Chopin's style of writing. The. One would except thirds and sixth with a rolling bass line. Iin actuality the piece. Nocturne in B minor, Op. 119. Overall, I find Faure's writing most interesting, espcially his stunning use of harmonic color. It seems to me that Faure wrote Romantic melodies supporte...

Romantic piano literature: Schumann Fantasie

http://nicoleagostino.blogspot.com/2008/01/schumann-fantasie.html

This web blog fulfills a course requirement. Romantic piano literature at FSU. Monday, January 21, 2008. I think that there are certain qualities to the piece that make the Fantasie less tangible to me than others. While listening I subconsciously was thinking of it as a sonata and thought to myself, "Why did he not reverse movements 2 and 3? After listening, I do not get the sense that this is a deep lament for Clara. For starters, it's in C major! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Romantic piano literature: 2008-01-06

http://nicoleagostino.blogspot.com/2008_01_06_archive.html

This web blog fulfills a course requirement. Romantic piano literature at FSU. Friday, January 11, 2008. Most everything in Papillons is a dance. All movements are in three except for number 2 and a brief part of the finale. What is interesting to me is how Schumann is able to transform characters and maintain interest while remaining in triple meter. And of course this all happens while simultaneously portraying the story in Jean-Paul Richter's novel. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

This web blog fulfills a course requirement. Romantic piano literature at FSU. Sunday, February 10, 2008. Chopin Ballade No. 1. After listening to three anonymous recordings of the first ballade, I have decided that pianist #3 is probably my favorite (followed very closely by #1), and pianist #2 was my least favorite, though not to discredit the merit of his recording. #2 took a much different approach than did #1 and 3, and I found myself enjoying the other two more. Romantic piano literature: Teaching a Song without Words

http://nicoleagostino.blogspot.com/2008/01/teaching-song-without-words.html

This web blog fulfills a course requirement. Romantic piano literature at FSU. Sunday, January 27, 2008. Teaching a Song without Words. I selected Mendelssohn's Song without Words Op. 53 No. 2 for this assignment because I think that it is pedagogically useful in teaching a number of elements of piano playing:. 1) Two against three - the duple and triple rhythms swap between hands so that a student can learn to play both on either side. 4) LH melody - project over the RH, for a change. 4) When the LH has...

Romantic piano literature: introduction: the social order and music - summary + reaction

http://nicoleagostino.blogspot.com/2008/01/introduction-social-order-and-music.html

This web blog fulfills a course requirement. Romantic piano literature at FSU. Thursday, January 17, 2008. Introduction: the social order and music - summary reaction. With the Revolution period of the nineteenth century came the rise of the individual and increased political and social freedom. It was at this time that music began to be composed as independent art works just for the sake of being art. If you think about it, at the structure of our present society, not a whole lot has changed since the n...

I Need A Better Title. Kinda like a journal. Kinda like A Website. A whole lot of nonsense that might be pretentious. Thursday, April 24, 2008. Bowties, butterflies, masks! Schumann's Papillons, Carnival, Kreisleriana). How programmatic can you get in twelve minutes? Papillons, in several characterized movements, tells Jean Paul's Flageljahre. A youthful Schumann composes this work, and it is evident. Spirited and well-written, it is nevertheless far less intricate than his later works.

Saturday, December 03, 2011. A couple of poems that I hope to one day turn into songs. I believe Your mind exceeds all of man's wisdom,. Your power is greater than I can see or ever know. Your ways are higher than the sum of all our knowledge,. You comprehend each minute act on earth below. Your light goes forth to break the power of darkness,. Your love extends to the foolish and the wise. Your compassions are new every morning,. You do not sleep, You never change, and cannot lie. Ingredients set in opp...

The Goal of life is to Live a God-pleasing Life. Wednesday, June 19, 2013. Not to mention that there are still a lot of things to figure out- work permit, vaccination shots, packing, sending in all the documents, etc. And then there's the fear of the UNKNOWN. What's going to happen when I'm there? How am I going to deal with homesickness? How will I deal with the lesson plans? The questions just keep coming. The Bible talks constantly about HIM knowing all things. What then shall we say to this? Just bec...
