We completed the ritual kora around Mount Kailash – high elevation point of the trek was crossing Drolma La Pass at 5638 meters (18,500 feet). Dave got his missing picture of Mt. July 15, 2013. July 15, 2013. Yilhun Lhatso, Tibet. Summer 2013. We’re off to Mt. Kailash in remote western Tibet. It’s the crown jewel of sacred sites in the Himalayas and Tibet. Dave needs a picture of the mountain to complete his Sacred Geography series. His book Sacred Geography: Tibet and Himalaya Photographs. With the Kailash picture, Dave’s book Sacred Geography. The book will be published by the University Press of Kentucky. Of the Kentucky Arts Council. We’ll keep you posted.

July 27, 2013. July 27, 2013. We are in Kathmandu processing paperwork for Tibet and doing a little filming. Our old friend Ram Chandra has been pedaling Dave around Kathmandu for 20 years. We strapped a GoPro to the bill of his ball cap with duct tape, piled into the back seat, and went for a ride. Here’s a snippet. The audio track was recorded on the street on July 26, 2013 working with two musicians from the Gaini Caste (wandering minstrels). Music used with permission of artists.

The project has taken me to some of the most exquisite landscapes on Earth - places filled with geographical wonder and cultural monuments dedicated to the powers of faith and the human consciousness. These sacred places are the visual coordinates in a cosmological map draped across the planet's surface - a mandala. Of sacred space within which the planet's surface may reach the empyrean.
