Piecing a Life

Monday, January 15, 2018. January Memories in the Mountains of Southern California. Today is the anniversary of our mom’s death three years ago. It’s also Martin Luther King Day. I’m not sure there’s a connection, but it’s good to remember both. It’s a good sunny afternoon to read Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants. It’s a very simple memory, but an important one. Sometimes I wish life could be that simple again. Monday, May 22, 2017. Armed with a sh...

Piecing a Life: October 2010

http://piecingalife.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 17, 2010. Working in a Barn - a P.S. PS Before being turned into a theater, the Old Barn at Parry Lodge in Kanab, Utah used to be a working barn. There's a very good chance that Trigger, Buttercup, Silver, Scout, and one of the many horses John Wayne used got to sleep there during movie filming. Working in a Barn. Like me, I'm sure you've occasionally done something stupid enough that someone asked, "Were you raised in a barn? Being raised during the 1950s and '60s, I grew up watching the...

Piecing a Life: February 2011

http://piecingalife.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 1, 2011. I drove the twenty miles down Hwy 52 to La Jolla Shores this morning to take a long walk on the beach and snap some pictures for friends in Oklahoma and Ohio. Thought they might like to warm up a little. It was a beautiful, sunny day though not extremely warm. However, there were lots of walkers, surfers, joggers, and cyclists taking advantage of the sunny weather. While listening to KPBS while driving, I heard an interview with the author of The Gangster We Are All Looking For.

Piecing a Life: September 2010

http://piecingalife.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Wednesday, September 1, 2010. Goodbye, Monkey Mind. Writing the cookie blog this afternoon served as a way to get back into blogging more. But much more importantly, I hope it also served to focus my thoughts a little in order to keep my "monkey mind" from jumping from thought to thought to idea to idea to idea without really focusing on anything. While volunteering at A Third Place Community Center. Of course, it's so hard not to chow down on the cookie dough or the finished cookies. I haven't figur...

Piecing a Life: July 2010

http://piecingalife.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, July 31, 2010. July 31 Thoughts While Sitting Outside with a Glass of Bailey's Irish Cream. Here are some pictures Fran Meadows took early this morning on her way to work. Yesterday I bought a book by Craig Childs called The Secret Knowledge of Water. Looking through it this morning, I discovered a chapter entitled "Flood at Kanab." I've always been quite a believer in synchronicity but that was just a little too much. Dawn Usher and I were released from jail today. In a solid square of human b...

Piecing a Life: It's Green!

http://piecingalife.blogspot.com/2015/03/its-green.html

Monday, March 16, 2015. Note: I wrote this on March 16, 2015, but for some weird reason, didn't publish it. So, here's s different view, this time in Spring. Things bloom and flower and it's beautiful. What difference a little rain at the right time makes in the desert! I've usually left the Desert View Tower. March 16, 2015 at 5:58 PM. We are going to have to come visit you out there one of these years! March 17, 2015 at 12:37 PM. August 28, 2015 at 9:37 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

No, not the Man of Steel. I bleed and hurt. Of flesh and blood. But i care just the same. I wish you were here with me tonight. Friday, March 30, 2012. Always the wrong thing at the wrong time. And no in this case two wrongs do not make a right. Should have just stuck to what was tried and tested. It is not as if by taking this risk anything was going to be different or at least any better. Wonderfully Ill-Composed

Friday, July 04, 2008. Posted by Jennifer @ 6:09 PM. Tuesday, June 24, 2008. I am in need of music that would flow. Over my fretful, feeling finger-tips,. Over my bitter-tainted, trembling lips,. With melody, deep, clear, and liquid-slow. Oh, for the healing swaying, old and low,. Of some song sung to rest the tired dead,. A song to fall like water on my head,. And over quivering limbs, dream flushed to glow! There is a magic made by melody:. A spell of rest, and quiet breath, and cool. Which has six-wor...
