The Last Couple Adventures « Rachel Crosses the Pond

https://pigeonpondhopper.wordpress.com/2014/07/07/the-last-couple-adventures

Rachel Crosses the Pond. A journey of fish, chips, and self-discovery. The Last Couple Adventures. Phew, it’s been a crazy (and long) weekend! On Thursday, I went into the department for group meeting, ate lunch with the lab, and headed out of there for the last time! Then met Kelvin, Paul, and Eric to catch a 4:21 train into London. We expertly navigated the Tube to get to the O2 arena, and got dinner at Nando’s there – they had bottomless soda, reminded me of the US! This is a big venue. Being there wi...

Rachel Crosses the Pond. A journey of fish, chips, and self-discovery. Monthly Archives: July 2014. So far, it’s been a nice trip back – got two seats to myself to sleep on the plane, had the amazing and almost-unheard-of combination of a pleasant UKBA officer AND National Express driver, and the weather is even cooperating! But, despite that and all my (successful, I think! So, as a farewell, I’ve picked out an assortment of photos from my time across the pond for your perusing pleasure. Enjoy! Then met...

Rachel Crosses the Pond. A journey of fish, chips, and self-discovery. Preparations. They’re happening. Cambridge is preparing for the Tour de France to come through! And I’m preparing to go home! Planning to submit my thesis a week from tomorrow, working on selling my bike and other possessions I can’t bring home with me, trying to use up all the food in my cupboard, and getting excited for my ‘last hurrah’ trip to Rome with Kaity next weekend! The end is in sight! This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

Rachel Crosses the Pond. A journey of fish, chips, and self-discovery. Monthly Archives: February 2014. Sunset update: Today at 5:27pm! Today was the Gates Lent Term trip to Bletchley Park and Stonehenge – two destinations I really wanted to hit this year, taken care of in one day and at group rates! Plus the weather was decent! Every time I go to a Gates event, I’m reminded how I wished I spent more time with the non-Churchill Gates folks – there are so many cool people! A real enigma machine! And a scu...

March « 2014 « Rachel Crosses the Pond

https://pigeonpondhopper.wordpress.com/2014/03

Rachel Crosses the Pond. A journey of fish, chips, and self-discovery. Monthly Archives: March 2014. On Saturday, I made veggie burgers that didn’t fall apart when I cooked them! And a tasty lemony yogurt sauce to go with them. Oh also I ran 15 miles. Which was pretty hard. But so were the veggie burgers, especially without a food processor. Saturday evening, I video chatted with the wonderful Winnie! So maybe if I don’t give myself carpal tunnel playing 2048. With some of these soon! No Going Back Now.

द ल ल द लव ल क श हर. Like much of the developing world, South Asia is still a cash society. It’s not that cards aren’t used; they are increasingly common. Getting change in India can be an adventure, with two interesting aspects:. 1) Fun change: when you buy milk or water or biscuits from a small snack shop or cart, you might get 1-2 rupees change in the form of random candy from their bins. Example of change returned after using a Rs. 50 note to buy a Rs. 18 bottle of water:. November 18, 2013 at 3:22 pm.

Comical Musings about Potentially Catastrophic Events. Someday, perhaps, it will be pleasant to remember even this. – Virgil. Glimpses of the Past. June 10, 2014. It’s been so long I’m afraid I’ve forgotten how to write… but it’s summer again and the absence of academic work (perhaps forever now or at least for a very long time) combined with a lack of a purpose has brought me back to this blog. Why are these random bits from my past surfacing now like adult acne or shingles? Blog at WordPress.com.

Pigeon Portraits is a collection of photographs of pigeons made to look and feel like they capture the characteristics of a human. My approach is candid and endeavours to capture the spirit of my subjects. Photographers such as Simon de Glanville and Tamara Staples challenge ideas of traditional animal imagery (birds in particular) and my work attempts to do this through humour and jollity. My other work can be found here. Knock Knock, 2015 by Mel Ede. Fixated, 2015 by Mel Ede. Eyes, 2015 by Mel Ede.
