Is it for you. In the mid-1920s Joseph and his wife Clara, also a nurse, moved to New York where they opened up a body conditioning studio. With its emphasis on flexibility and strength, the studio became popular with dancers and athletes. By 1964, there were numerous Pilates studios around the United States. Since 2000 the Pilates philosophy has spread to the UK, Canada, Europe, Asia and Southern Africa.

Classes are based on the 4 seasons and usually run over a 10 week period. The hour long classes are run at Levels I, II and III. One to One sessions run on a adhoc basis and are tailored to your specific needs. They are a mainly mat based and you will receive specific feedback, correction and exercises. Clients have found One to One sessions useful to discuss and practice specific exercises which have been learnt in group classes, but they feel requires additional attention.

My love and commitment to Pilates started when I was still a professional dancer. I suffered with chronic back and hip injuries. This led to hours spent reading and discussing the matter with various physiotherapists, visits to chiropractors, osteopaths and accupuncturists. Pilates seemed to always come up trumps as a good form of exercise for former dancers.
