The Pinotage Club: May 2015
http://www.pinotage.org/2015_05_01_archive.html
My Wine of the Month for May is Kanonkop. Pinotage 1995. Twenty years old and at peak perfection, this is a superb wine with a perfect balance of restrained fruits and soft tannins with a long sweet finish. Irritatingly the cork broke, a recurring issue with old Kanonkops – I said back in 2007,. After a 1999 cork crumbled,. Note the pleasingly uncluttered back label, today’s vintages are now graffitied with health and allergy warnings. Peter F May for The Pinotage Club. Links to this post. Is something o...

The Pinotage Club: WoTM - J Vineyard's Pinotage 2010
http://www.pinotage.org/2015/06/wotm-j-vineyards-pinotage-2010.html
WoTM - J Vineyard's Pinotage 2010. My Wine of the Month for June is J Vineyard and Winery. 8217;s Pinotage 2010, grown and made on the estate in California’s Russian River. This had redcurrant flavours and a lightness of fruits which danced over the reality of its 14.7% abv. Develops complexity and had a long silky finish. Delicious. Pinotage is sold exclusively in their tasting room and it has gathered many fans, quickly selling out each vintage. Peter F May for The Pinotage Club. Was published in summe...

The Pinotage Club: July 2015
http://www.pinotage.org/2015_07_01_archive.html
WoTM - Beaumont Pinotage 2013. My Wine of the Month for July is Beaumont Pinotage 2013, WO Bot River 2013. I’ve long been a fan of Beaumont winery whose rustic old cellar, Compagnes Drift Farm, was an outpost of the Dutch East India Company. It’s located where the N2 motorway from Cape Town descends from the plateau that starts at Sir Lowry’s post, where the R43 peels off towards Hermanus. The winemaker is Sebastian Beaumont whose parents bought the property in 1974. Peter F May for The Pinotage Club.

The Pinotage Club: April 2015
http://www.pinotage.org/2015_04_01_archive.html
WoTM –Kaapzicht Estate ‘Steytler Vision’ 2001. My Wine of the Month for April is Kaapzicht Estate’s ‘Steytler Vision’ 2001. This was a very easy choice because it was by far the best and most enjoyable wine out of all I drank during the month. It’s a Cape Blend. The front label says Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage, with 50% of the first, 40% of the second and complemented with 10% Merlot according to the rear label. Unfortunately that was my last bottle, number 3,461 of 9,000. Links to this post. Peter F...

The Pinotage Club: Tormentino Tasted
http://www.pinotage.org/2015/06/tormentino-tasted.html
Is a name new to me. It is is a premium brand of MAN Vintners. I recently tasted their 2013 Bush Vine Pinotage was pale red and medium bodied with soft sweet ripe fruits and spices. Closed with real cork, Coastal Wine of Origin, 14% abv. The name comes from. Cabo Tormentoso" (translated as “Stormy Cape” or “Cape of Storms”), the original name for the Cape of Good Hope given to it by the Portuguese explorer Bartholomieu Dias who first rounded the Cape in 1488. Kumala Virtual Winetasting 14-OCT-14. Kumala winemaker Ben Jordaan will be hosting a virtual wine tasting on 14 October and I’ll be taking part. I need your questions to put to Ben. They can be about Kumala, wine making, Pinotage, anything at all. I have sets of Kumala wines to send to two of the people who send me questions*, but I will use as many as I can. Email me or use the comment form below. Unfortunately Kumala can only despatch wines to UK addresses. Peter F May for The Pinotage Club. What you g...

The Pinotage Club: Guillermo Pinotage tasted
http://www.pinotage.org/2015/06/guillermo-pinotage-tasted.html
I recently tasted Painted Wolf. 8217;s 2011 Guillermo Pinotage in the company of chief wolf Jeremy Borg. It’s intensity reminded me of an Italian reciota. Jeremy explained that 10% of the grapes were vinified separately, whole bunched were fermented with their stems in a floating lid tank which was closed when almost dry and left for 6 weeks before pressing. After a year’s maturation this “super super high dry extract” was blended into the wine. Peter F May for The Pinotage Club. Was published in summer ...
