Growing edible stuff and attempting to feed it to my family. Broad Bean – Stereo: I’ve grown these once before and they were a great success. I didn’t think I liked broad beans but these are so small and sweet that I usually don’t bother cooking them, I just pick them young and put them through salads. The slightly larger ones are nice steamed for a few minutes and tossed in garlic butter. I’m going to try a spring sowing anyway. But I’ve never grown this before so we’ll see. I ordered these for the sole...

Growing edible stuff and attempting to feed it to my family. Laquo; Garden building with lego (sort of). The Power of the Perennial. February 25, 2014. All this, along with my grandmother’s primroses (which apparently you can also eat, though I’ve never tried) reminded me of the perennial nature of gardening, and why it’s never worth carrying any guilt over a period of neglect. No matter how long I’ve been away, there’s always something worth saving. Why do we make so much work for ourselves as gardeners?

Growing edible stuff and attempting to feed it to my family. Laquo; Sensual gardening. The Rewards of Patience. April 18, 2012. Things have been slow to get started in the garden this year. After an early heatwave the weather has turned cold again, and I’m glad I resisted the urge to start sowing as soon as the weather warmed up. Perhaps my optimism is depleting with age, but I knew it couldn’t last. My parsley too, which I had planted in one of the vegetable beds instead of a pot, has grown back and is ...

Growing edible stuff and attempting to feed it to my family. Laquo; Chamomile Dreams. The Power of the Perennial. Garden building with lego (sort of). July 2, 2012. I’m not really fond of flatpacked furniture. My idea of a day from hell is to be locked in a room with an ikea flatpack. Of course, like everybody else in the world, my home is full of it, since the idea of buying something in the shape it’s supposed to be now seems to come with a truly regal premium. The scary bit – beginnning. The next chal...

Growing edible stuff and attempting to feed it to my family. Laquo; The Rewards of Patience. Garden building with lego (sort of). June 22, 2012. I was fortunate enough today to treat myself to a glorious aromatherapy massage from the lovely Aromaaura. I didn’t stop there though. To be honest, I got a bit carried away with the smelling, and ended up with grapefruit mint, chocolate mint, lemon verbena (I never knew the difference between this and lemonbalm, which grows like a weed in my garden, but lemo...
