The big difference in an American kilt is that because it's not a tartan, you don't have to take the care and extra material to match up the tartan pattern (known as the sett) when doing the pleats. You can therefore make a bigger pleat with much less material. On most American Style kilts, the apron is smaller than on a traditional kilt. Right now there are more kilt makers at work than probably ever before. The good news is, that means variety! The bad news is, you'll want to use some care in selecting your kilt maker. Friday, November 25, 2005. After spending many dollars on guitars, and many hours noodling around on them, what do you do with them? You hook up with other musicians, do "show and tell" with your prized instruments, and spend time noodling together. Currently, I play with 3 or 4 divergent groups: a jazz group, a 60's rock group, a scottish dance band, and a couple of worship groups. I spend most of my time with the jazz group. We refer to ourselves as 4 guys and a dame. Aren't we having a good time?
