Giles has made a wide range of designs as commissions including: xylophones, drums, gongs, hand held percussion, bell frames and tuned percussion. Giles has designed and built musical playgrounds and sonic sculptures previously with Echo City. And specifically designed instruments for shows with Indefinite articles puppet company. And most recently he has been using his musical inventions with The Junk Orchestra. He has played often in improvised music events for the Clinker club.

Workshops in making drums and musical instruments from recycled materials. Workshops have been designed for schools, special-needs schools, hospitals, adventure playgrounds, play centres, children’s centres, festivals and parks. These workshops are suitable for all ages and are adapted for each setting. Students are then encouraged to design their own instruments on paper, survey the materials provided and evaluate what might be needed to make their instrument. A making session would then follow.
