Yoos and Eyes in Zambia: June 2014

http://pjmissions.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Yoos and Eyes in Zambia. Our journey from California to Zambia. Tuesday, June 24, 2014. Life always brings constant change - sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. It's always harder to say good-bye than hello. During our time here in Zambia, we've had to say farewell to some precious people. But there are a few hellos as well. This flux of hellos and good-byes always results in a friendship that lasts beyond our brief time together. 1 Good-bye, Meiring, Juanita, and Abigail! 2 Good-bye, Mom!

Yoos and Eyes in Zambia: January 2015

http://pjmissions.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Yoos and Eyes in Zambia. Our journey from California to Zambia. Saturday, January 10, 2015. Holiday Festivities and Family Fun. The months of November and December were positively packed with not just the holiday spirit, but also a flurry activity and visitors. November 20 -21, 2014, we hosted three AHI (Adventist Health International) board members from the U.S. for our yearly AHI board meetings – Dr. Dick Hart, Rod Neal, and Danjuma Daniel. Or that it was going to be taken from us. At one point, some c...

Yoos and Eyes in Zambia: February 2013

http://pjmissions.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Yoos and Eyes in Zambia. Our journey from California to Zambia. Saturday, February 16, 2013. Work Hard, Play Hard. I’ve always been a hard worker. Ever since I can remember, I strove to excel, to bring tasks to completion, to follow through with what I said I would do, to put 101% into everything I did. It’s something I valued inherently, but that desire was groomed and encouraged as I grew and learned and understood. Looking back at my life, I was always on the go. No time to dilly-dally. But slowly, I&...

Yoos and Eyes in Zambia: May 2015

http://pjmissions.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Yoos and Eyes in Zambia. Our journey from California to Zambia. Sunday, May 10, 2015. Although our biological children are still in infancy and toddlerhood, we have recently experienced a form of Empty Nest Syndrome. April seems to have been the month when all of our “children” came into our lives simultaneously. And slowly, starting in mid-April up to this last week, they have each left the nest – one by one. Your three week rotation (March 29 – April 17, 2015) was incredibly short. You are a skilled su...

A Missionary Doctor: Resource Spotlight: Pathoma

http://www.missionsdoc.com/2015/06/resource-spotlight-pathoma.html

Monday, June 8, 2015. The average score on the USMLE Step 1 exam has been gradually increasing. Students now have an array of resources that are crucial in securing that "above average" score. Unfortunately this isn't Lake Wobegon. And so everyone can't be above average. That said, there are some resources that are essential to the success of many students with respect to Step 1 and beyond. My theory is that students are getting better at preparing for the test each year. Pathoma. Is one such resource.

A Missionary Doctor: Marriage and Medicine

http://www.missionsdoc.com/2015/07/marriage-and-medicine.html

Friday, July 3, 2015. Medical careers can take a toll on your marriage. I will be married for 12 years this August. I can clearly look at the "before" medical school and "after" medical school effect on not only my marriage but my entire family. Enter, a great article from a website geared towards nurturing medical marriages by marriage therapist and wife of a surgical oncologist, Kim Blackham. If you are married or engaged and one of you is in medicine, this is an excellent article to read. Image: image...

Friday, March 20, 2015. Match Day: Congrats to the Seniors! Today is Match day. For senior medical students matching to ACGME residencies! Across the country thousands of medical students simultaneously find out where they will spend the next 3-7 years crafting their skills in the practice of medicine. It's amazing to think that by this time next year I will have already gone through the process. Here is a cool story about matching from one of LLU's students. 34 students to family medicine (! Neither is it meant to a commentary about the quality of care provided by physicians or NPs. Yoos and Eyes in Zambia

Yoos and Eyes in Zambia. Our journey from California to Zambia. Thursday, July 6, 2017. 8220;Injection, ointment, strapping.”. The eye patch was placed, the patient was helped off the bed, and a new one was brought into position before I began another cataract surgery. Over and over and over again. Near the end of our eye camp, we had fallen into a rhythm. As I looked around me, I saw the beauty of everyone at work in the operating theatre – everyone with their role, everyone doing their part. But as I w...
