INCLUSIVE DEMOCRATIC NEPAL: 03-May-2008
http://nepal-democracy.blogspot.com/2008_05_03_archive.html
Fostering Democracy in South Asia. Saturday, 3 May 2008. India's choices are limited. Of the two demands already delivered to Delhi by the victorious Maoists, revision of the 1950 treaty seems more reasonable and India has no option but listen to the new powers in Kathmandu. But the other one, banning Gurkha recruitment in the Indian Army, would be counterproductive for Nepal. There is also a need to deal with the bilateral issues at various levels with a much broader spectrum to make it more meaningful.

INCLUSIVE DEMOCRATIC NEPAL: The shortage economy
http://nepal-democracy.blogspot.com/2009/04/shortage-economy.html
Fostering Democracy in South Asia. Saturday, 4 April 2009. Such shortages occurred partly because of central planning that could not sensibly plan for the production of thousands of items to match consumer demand, and partly it reflected government intentions to create shortages of consumer goods to increase saving. Nepal's case is different! We can envisage - taking just one example - of a five-year water development plan targeted to supply drinking water to the entire population and irrigation water to...

INCLUSIVE DEMOCRATIC NEPAL: The day of the generals
http://nepal-democracy.blogspot.com/2009/04/day-of-generals.html
Fostering Democracy in South Asia. Saturday, 4 April 2009. The day of the generals. The Maoist protestors must have been incensed by the court's audacity to overrule a decision taken by a government elected by the people. After all, can't a government elected by the people do what it deems fit or proper or right? Did the government break an established precedent when it refused to extend the term of office of six brigadiers? Why did the court rule against the legitimate owner of the land?

INCLUSIVE DEMOCRATIC NEPAL: New Nepal government has a golden opportunity
http://nepal-democracy.blogspot.com/2009/06/new-nepal-government-has-golden.html
Fostering Democracy in South Asia. Wednesday, 10 June 2009. New Nepal government has a golden opportunity. However, the climax was the tussle between the Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPNM) party and the Nepalese Army over the issue of ‘civilian supremacy’. It led to the downfall of the Maoist government and changed the whole discourse on Nepal’s polity. The new government in Nepal has to tackle several challenges. Moreover, isolating or cornering the Maoists wont bear much result.
