It's April, the day after some rain, and in one of my freshly composted garden beds these fruits pop up. In order to begin identifying these mushrooms I'll need a knowledgeable source. Florida Plantae and Fungi. A celebration and documentation of the Plantae and Fungi Kingdoms of Florida and the surrounding areas. Tuesday, July 15, 2014. I found these mushrooms on a shady trail, but well before I could see them I smelled their foul odor. The fungi clearly means to attract flies since many of them swarmed around a cluster. Some of the over ripe caps appeared to be melting as they decayed. The decaying process possibly serves to smell stronger and attract more flies! Friday, July 11, 2014.

I found these in a grass patch in an area with rich soil that was previously occupied by cows and their rich manure.

Also known as “Dwarf Feather Grass”, this is definitely one plant that is best grown in drifts rather than as an individual specimen. Mass planting will definitely showcase it’s beauty.
