Melons & Cucumbers | Plants On Deck

https://plantsondeck.com/category/melons-cucumbers

Tales of an urban garden. What’s Plants On Deck? Where’s Plants On Deck? Who’s Plants On Deck? Category Archives: Melons and Cucumbers. August 11, 2015. After years of disappointing yields, POD is swimming (or drowning) in garden-fresh produce. What a deliciously beautiful thing. For all the pleasure, those days were also pretty demoralizing. What I didn’t love so much? And on the menu for this week? Kofte kebabs with a cucumber and tomato salad. Panzanella with Porter Road Butcher’s. Hey Self: Wenke Wink.

Tales of an urban garden. What’s Plants On Deck? Where’s Plants On Deck? Who’s Plants On Deck? Tag Archives: South Philly. July 26, 2015. This is, apparently, something of a recurring theme for me lately. As loyal readers know, Plants On Deck recently relocated to East Nashville after over a decade on a 10×10 deck in South Philly, leaving dozens of pots and containers, a couple of orphaned blueberries, and a much-loved but aging and slivered little blue deck behind. Poisonous Eggplants and A-holes. Creat...

Tales of an urban garden. What’s Plants On Deck? Where’s Plants On Deck? Who’s Plants On Deck? Tag Archives: Frankies Spuntino. First, Next, Then. September 25, 2015. First there were tomatoes. Eight pounds of them. Next there was garlic. 21 cloves. Then there was gravy. Frankies Spuntino. For years I struggled to make a decent tomato sauce. In went the onions, the garlic, the dried herbs(! The vinegar, the sugar, the whatever. I’m Dutch. I’m not supposed to make a good sauce. And I didn’t. 1 1/2 tsp salt.

A blog about cooking, gardening, and diy by trial and error, with occasional and random ramblings. Home garden update - May 2012. Some pics from my backyard. Tulips from early spring. now dead. I'm going to be lazy and leave the bulbs in the ground and hope they come back next year. Marigolds and nasturtiums scattered throughout all three beds. Flowers around the border include roses, foxglove, and a bunch of others I forgot to label, so I have no idea what they are. Tangerine tree and aloe.

domestic efforts: January 2015

http://www.domesticefforts.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

A blog about cooking, gardening, and diy by trial and error, with occasional and random ramblings. The last time I wrote was almost a year ago, and it was during a time of reflection and grief. I can hardly believe what has happened since I last wrote. The biggest news of all is that I became pregnant again, and, this time, the pregnancy resulted in one beautiful and healthy baby girl (born on Dec. 29). I look at her everyday and still can't believe she's real. Links to this post. Never miss a post.

This is our nightshade bed, since it holds various tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants. Interplanted are carrots and lettuce. Beet and brassica bed. Features beets, chard, kale, and, eventually, brussels sprouts. View of the farm. Signs of plant life.

I was tempted to begin this new venture with an elaborate set-up but decided to starts slowly and cheaply. That way, if my plants fail, I won't be quite so upset.
