Poacher Morris are Lincoln’s finest and original mixed Border Morris Team. We enjoy performing lively and energetic dances, and encourage new dancers and musicians to join us in fun, social, exercise. Poacher Morris was formed in 1995 and we take our name from the song ‘The Lincolnshire Poacher’ and perform the dances of the Welsh Border tradition in our own “wild and exuberant” style which is much influenced by Shropshire Bedlams. Our costume is made up of colourful rag coats and decorated top hats.

The term “Border Morris” was originally coined by Dr EC Cawte, in his 1963 paper “The Morris dance in Herefordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire”. Hull Day of Dance. Here is some of the dances we perform. Tune - Laughing Plough Lads. Inspiration and the music was brought to us by a local historian Paul Davenport who has been exploring the traditions some thought to have been forgotten. We have taken that tradition making a dance with our own feel and not to mention a dancing musician. Tune - Cuckoos Nest (Rackaback Variation).
