Podunk Pretties

Tutorials and FREE Patterns. Etsy and Craftsy Patterns. Friday, April 13, 2018. I'm so excited to finally be sharing my new pattern Turnabout Tulips. My love of flower quilts inspired another super cute pattern. The pink and aqua fat quarters from the First Romance bundle by Moda made the perfect spring quilt. But this quilt looks just as cute in more muted colors. This is the same pattern in Cory Yoders new line Pepper and Flax. Or how about some reproduction fabrics. And as a PDF in Craftsy shop. Podunk Pretties: Freezer paper applique WARNING!!

http://podunkpretties.blogspot.com/2015/08/freezer-paper-applique-warning.html

Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Freezer paper applique WARNING! The little red arrow areas I can live with. Once in the quilt no one would know there was shrinkage on the scallops. But that circle area, that's another story. It's a critical area, these HAVE to be perfect in order to meet at the corners with no gaps. That's almost a quarter inch off. Now I bet your wondering how many I made that were too short. TWO! And the only reason I caught it was. And I knew the roll in the kitchen was almost gone. $#%!

Podunk Pretties: Mini Basket Finished

http://podunkpretties.blogspot.com/2015/08/mini-basket-finished.html

Tuesday, August 4, 2015. I'm still here plugging along. There's so much to do that my quilting is taking a backseat. The original plan for this basket block was a larger quilt with several of these blocks and an applique border. I may eventually make a larger quilt using the block design but for now I just want a finished project. The base of the basket block(red gingham) is as wonky as it looks. It was a scrap piece of gingham cut on the bias that obviously didn't get enough starch. Lee Ann, I can alway...

Podunk Pretties: That inner voice

http://podunkpretties.blogspot.com/2015/08/that-inner-voice.html

Monday, August 10, 2015. The ideas have been flowing in like a tidal wave! Here's the little birdy shape strutting her stuff. Oh yes, a scallop around this dresden would be ADORABLE! I don't recall you helping me out then! Oh well what's a gal to do, this is a democracy. So me, myself and I have voted to go with the easier plan. But I want everyone in bloggyland to know Lea Anne wants the scallops! August 10, 2015 at 10:32 AM. August 10, 2015 at 10:39 AM. August 10, 2015 at 10:40 AM. Judy D in WA. Love y...

Podunk Pretties: Throwback Thursday

http://podunkpretties.blogspot.com/2015/08/throwback-thursday.html

Thursday, August 6, 2015. Are you ready for another blast from the past? Before sharing my throwback quilt today I'd like to invite you to share your own over at Krista Quilts. It's a brand new linky party and we're having fun sharing the quilts at the beginning of our quilting journeys. It needed a bit more character. At the time I had a full time job that left little time for quilting, so it was laid aside and forgotten. Moms embroidered blocks had to be squared up and enlarged using the muslin. Thats ...

Canuck Quilter: Checkerboard border

http://www.canuckquilter.com/2015/07/checkerboard-border.html

Monday, July 27, 2015. It seemed like a good idea, then not so much, then good again, then I ground my teeth. I think it was worth it. The blue is a bit washed out from the camera flash, but that’s what I get at 9:30pm! I thought my airplane quilt needed a little something more. A checkerboard border to echo the nine-patch alternate blocks sounded just right, and with strip piecing it would come together quickly. In theory. About halfway through I didn’t think this was such a good idea anymore! I love ho...

VROOMANS QUILTS: I'm Late for a Very Important Date!

http://vroomansquilts.blogspot.com/2015/08/im-late-for-very-important-date.html

Monday, August 10, 2015. I'm Late for a Very Important Date! I managed for Slow Sunday Stitching to complete my two bindings and then I finished up a third this morning. Hopefull I can get pictures tomorrow (is it suppose to rain? Or the next day. Of course this furkid was of no help at all! My 'Let's Book It' project got a little more piecing. Just the border to do then it will be sandwiched up for a quick quilting. There was no way I was taking that away from him - those nails are brutal! August 10, 20...

VROOMANS QUILTS: April 2015

http://vroomansquilts.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 30, 2015. Well the sun will shine, it will get warmer, and the lawnmowers have been primed for the first cutting of grass. The tractors and machinery have been delivered to the crop fields which means they will be getting land in ready for planting, then the planting and soon little signs of new life will appear across the flat lands. I love the smell of new mown grass, fresh tilled soil, and new sprouting crops. I have participated with Marcia's. I will be a Hands 2 Help guest blogger on...

Canuck Quilter: Which Way North?

http://www.canuckquilter.com/2015/08/which-way-north.html

Monday, August 10, 2015. Which will shortly be winging its way north to its new owner. I can’t tell you yet how I came up with that name, but I can say that it has nothing at all to do with that little maple leaf and Canada being in the northern half of the continent. It does have to do with an oops in my quilting design, and that’s all I will say until the recipient has a stab at figuring it out! Another picture just because. And the requisite “quilt with feet” shot. Finally, just in case you think I ac...

Canuck Quilter: March 2015

http://www.canuckquilter.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Tuesday, March 31, 2015. I finished all 36 blue drunkard’s path blocks. I started getting the hang of them again near the end of the stack. Now I need to figure out what to do with them. My original intention was to remake Autumn moons. Hmm This isn’t soaring. The snowflakes definitely would need to be larger. Maybe Snowflake 3, version 2. After that ho-hum reaction to what I threw on the wall, I scrambled up the units and came up with a few different layouts unrelated to snowflakes. We had firm intentio...

Canuck Quilter: Is my paper shrinking?

http://www.canuckquilter.com/2015/07/is-my-paper-shrinking.html

Thursday, July 16, 2015. Is my paper shrinking? OK folks, I measured before and after. Paper does indeed shrink when it is ironed. Even the fancy “paper piecing” newsprint-style paper whose manufacturers claim it won’t shrink and curl. But here’s the kicker: it seems to go back to its original size after cooling down. Today I printed the paper foundation and measured. It was exactly the size it was supposed to be. Then I ironed the paper and measured again. Ha! You can see I lined up the 1” mark on...

I am really enjoying doing applique again,. But I'm not sold on the. Starch" method of preparation. There are little bumps in the edges at times. Just my design wall.

Podunk Paradise Project

There was an error in this gadget. Thursday, June 10, 2010. Let me first start by letting you know that I am not the inventor of this fabulous method. I wish I had been, as I would love to take credit for it, but I believe I learned this parenting tool when Rosie O'Donnell still had a talk show. Answer, "Storks." That simple one word, bogus response, will suffice. Hooray! It's fascinating to hear stories from other parents who have fashioned similar answers to questions raised by their young. Several mon...

Best Unread Blog on the Internet. When I can remember to write. Monday, July 26, 2010. Overselpt, but for a good reason. So I like to think of myself as a total TV, Movie, Radio snob. I know what's good and what's trash. I go for indie films vs. big budget, I discovered Emo with Jimmy Eat World NOT Dashboard Confessional (which I dig, but they weren't first! You know you're really tall". Thursday, July 22, 2010. How did we ever end up in a world with internet piracy with this little piece of Inspiration?

Podunk Princess | "Just a small town girl…"

Just a small town girl…. The past week or so, the need for me to speak up and out has been ever present. Lots of conversation where my instinct is to stay quiet or say “I don’t know” or “nothing” but I’ve had to push past the discomfort and fear of saying the wrong thing to just be honest. I’m trying to live more bravely. And I don’t even really like saying trying because then it feels like maybe it’s okay if I don’t. Happy New Year’s Eve! A few thoughts for my year…. Sister is in Spain and loving it&#46...
