Steve started a business in signwriting and mural design to finance himself while he attempted to gain work as an illustrator. Despite the success of this business Steve ceased signwriting when he joined Meiklejohn, one of the UK's top artists' agencies. That was in 1987 and he has worked as a freelance illustrator ever since doing work for many different clients including Barclays Bank, Sainsbury's, BP, Franklin Mint and Benson and Hedges.
