Artemisa's Well: 09/11/09

Friday, September 11, 2009. Tennesssee's Corker is "all heart". Tennessee Senator Bob Corker, a Republican, dismissed President Obama's health care speech as "full of platitudes." (See below). Easy for him to say that. Corker is one of the richest of our U.S. senators. No health insurance concerns for him. But what about his constituents, the people of Tennessee? Most of us are not as rich as he is. Nor do we have access to the health care options availabe to him as a U.S. senator. Which went as follows:.

Thursday, September 4, 2008. I have trouble watching the Republicans. I have trouble watching the Republicans running down Obama. They never discuss the issues: the national debt, the financial crisis, the falling dollar, the decreasing incomes and increasing costs of living for most Americans, our overextended military. Instead, they talk about Obama's lack of experience, ignoring how he exceeds his jaded opponents in wisdom, compassion and insight. It is not surprising that they do this. But I have...

Friday, November 7, 2008. Tuke didn't lose; Tennessee did. Most voters saw me from their cars as they passed by to park in the closest parking spaces. Most smiled and nodded to me. Some on foot called to me from a distance to comment on the pretty weather. A few gave me the thumbs up or pointed out their Obama signs or bumper stickers. One voter, a woman, brought a poll worker outside after she voted and motioned towards me. When he came towards me I asked, 'Is there a problem.' He assured me tha...Well,...

Confessions of a Very Bad Cook: Oven dried tomatoes and Albert Schweitzer
http://verybadcook.blogspot.com/2011/10/oven-dried-tomatoes-and-albert.html
Confessions of a Very Bad Cook. Sunday, October 16, 2011. Oven dried tomatoes and Albert Schweitzer. J- - returned, fussed about the imperfectly cleaned kitchen which he then cleaned. With him back, I decided to postpone a planned furniture moving and opted instead to haul some more books upstairs. So here I am reading one of them, an Albert Schweitzer anthology, edited by Charles R. Joy and published by the Beacon Press in 1947. Can recall the past to life. The Quest of the Historical Jesus, p 25, 1926].

Confessions of a Very Bad Cook: October 2010

Confessions of a Very Bad Cook. Thursday, October 28, 2010. My favorite 'fast food'. Mexican Cheese Tacos with Avocado and Arugula. Kraft Natural Authentic Mexican Cheese (finely shredded). Pace Picante Sauce (medium hot). I usually make two and start by placing two small nonstick skillets on the two small electric units on the stove. (I would love to have a gas stove but don't.). These skillets are always ready on my stove top, stacked together with a larger nonstick one. Then, I add the fabulous shredd...

Confessions of a Very Bad Cook: Blackberries! No jam
http://verybadcook.blogspot.com/2010/06/blackberries-no-jam.html
Confessions of a Very Bad Cook. Thursday, June 24, 2010. We did that, dragging my just awakened daughter Katie with us. Actually Katie and I got there first. Laura came later with the dogs which she tied to a small tree in the midst of one of the blackberry patches. It was mid morning and hot so we didn't stay long. Among the three of us we gathered at least 12 cups in a short time. But The berry seeds were so big and so many that the texture was just unacceptable. I didn't know what to do. View my compl...

Wednesday, October 8, 2008. Dear Cremomma. Please forgive me. Dear cremomma, we certainly are coming from different places aren't we? Showed that he recognized and respected my heart. What my heart was feeling was this:. The amazement and pride all of us Obama supporters had in seeing each other for the first time in such unexpected numbers in a state which our own governor has written off for McCain. John Rich risks nothing in this song. And I am forced to wonder what kind of songs he would be writin...

Wednesday, January 27, 2010. Bredesen's higher ed plan: A good idea? Am I the only one who sees the possiblity that under this kind of budgetary blackmail educators will be forced to dumb down curricula to produce greater numbers of graduates? But what’s really behind the high graduation rates in other states? For example, how much do they spend on elementary and high school education? How about a comparison of graduation rates in states with an income tax and those with no income tax? What about a compa...

Thursday, October 16, 2008. Soros: Denmark Offers a Model Mortgage Market. Here is a safe way to securitize home loans. The American system of mortgage financing is broken and needs a total overhaul. Until there is a raealistic prospect of stabilizing housing prices, the value of mortgage-related securities will erode and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson's efforts will come to naught. There are four fundamental problems with our current system of mortgage financing. Third, mortgage-backed securitizations...

Monday, May 12, 2008. Mama, oh Mama. Mama had huge hazel eyes that caught the light when she looked around the room. This gave her an expression of alarm unless she was laughing or smiling. She probably wasn't smiling when she said that about Daddy. I imagine that she was reliving her life there on her deathbed and thinking how he had totally changed her life in ways she could not have imagined in the years before she met him.
