Poverty Line Journal: payday loans

http://povertylinejournal.blogspot.com/2011/08/payday-loans.html

Thursday, August 11, 2011. Our of curiosity and financial desperation, I've done a little research into the "payday loan" industry. Here's a little fine print for one company, who claims to make loans for much much less! Than typical payday loan companies. Let's explore their generosity:. Average payday loan pricing is based on Texas-originated loans from CashNet USA (664%), ChecknGo (661%) and MyCashNow (485%) as of February 22, 2011. Say it again — three hundred and sixty percent interest. Look back at...

Poverty Line Journal: Horror Care: How Private Health Care Is Shortening Our Lives | Common Dreams

http://povertylinejournal.blogspot.com/2013/03/horror-care-how-private-health-care-is.html

Wednesday, March 6, 2013. Horror Care: How Private Health Care Is Shortening Our Lives Common Dreams. Horror Care: How Private Health Care Is Shortening Our Lives Common Dreams. The US has the most morally bankrupt, inefficient, corrupt and greed-infested system of "health care" among developed nations. Real health care is the last priority when private corporations and shareholders are involved. We need to continue to advocate for Single Payer. Or expanded Medicare for all. Everybody in. nobody out.

Poverty Line Journal: mortgage counseling

http://povertylinejournal.blogspot.com/2011/08/mortgage-counseling.html

Friday, August 12, 2011. There's a wealth of programs that provide debt management and counseling; it appears to be a growing industry. These companies are staffed by nice, caring people who have very little power to actually help in a lot of cases. Doing it. It's really a last-ditch effort though, and in my experience only makes them feel like. They are being useful, without actually being. I've been down that road barefoot about a thousand miles already. You know what would really. 8212; understand how...

Monday, February 23, 2015. Guest Review (Chairman Ralph): Capital Letters: "Wolf" EP. Wolf EP (Sugar Shack Records). There's an old saying that experience is the best teacher, which definitely characterizes this new EP by Birmingham reggae veterans Capital Letters. The band formed in 1971, and quickly built up a fanbase during its iinitial'70s and '80s heyday (including Britain's late, sorely missed number one DJ, John Peel). Thanks to the recent reissue of its '80s album, Reality. In true roots style, y...

Ramen Noodle Nation: Life's Little Injustices (Take II): I Feel An Overdraft In Here

Saturday, November 1, 2014. Life's Little Injustices (Take II): I Feel An Overdraft In Here. A funny thing happened to my bank account last week. Late one night, I decided to check my account online, only to find myself staring down a big, ugly, negative number. How'd. Only yesterday, I'd deposited $100 to cover another bill hovering around the corner. What happened? I thought I was covered! After all, in this economy, most people don't wait that. Long to cash their checks.because they literally can't.

Ramen Noodle Nation: 924 Gilman: A Cure For The Cultural Blahs?

Tuesday, May 5, 2015. 924 Gilman: A Cure For The Cultural Blahs? The blockbuster business model is a crappy approach to commerce. In simple terms, I'm talking about the practice of relying on. Established faces to bring home your box office bacon. For practical reasons, I'll focus on the music side (although this discussion applies to any creative field). The appeal is obvious, from a pure gatekeeping perspective. It's simpler to maximize an entrenched act's. Seismic trend shifts can also wreak havoc.

Friday, June 12, 2015. Snap Crackle, Pop.There Goes Your Food Budget. Once again, this Evil Science Experiment called "Life" rears its ugly head. Our food stamp allowance has been cut by two-thirds, from roughly $357 to $80, due to a household expense deduction that was erroneously given. whoops, we made a mistake, now it's you who's gotta pay! Heads, you lose, tails you lose. And I experienced a couple years - relatively speaking - of stability on that front. A good portion of the month. As any nutr...

Tuesday, September 11, 2012. Peter Tosh: A Lifetime Of Trick Language. Frequently forgotten, amid all this morbid speculation, is Tosh's keen lyrical wit, and satirical inversions of the English tongue, which he often called “ trick language. And there, in this hole-in-the-wall shop, is where I picked up Equal Rights. And the title track, which is one of Tosh's most enduring anthems (“ I don't want no peace/I want equal rights, and justice. For countless hours – Equal Rights. Spent a lot of serious needl...

Surviving Poverty

This is one of the cheapest meals out there. Pick up some frozen chicken meat - the cheapest tends to be thigh meat. Cook chicken on low heat, in water with a dash of salt. Then remove, and save that broth! The meat will fall off the bones. Cut up the meat. Put it back in a pan with some peas and diced carrots. (If you haven't any from your garden, buy some house brand in the freezer section.). Add just a little bit of onion or onion powder. Add salt and pepper to taste. Make up a batch of bisquit mix.
