Premed Post-mom: Ten Steps Ahead

http://www.premedpostmom.blogspot.com/2015/07/ten-steps-ahead.html

Life gets in the way while working towards a future in medicine. Tuesday, 21 July 2015. While the move is close and thus consuming much of my thinking power these days, I still find myself having moments where I can't help but think about the future. My career. The end goal. Obstetrics quite possibly, but my interest in that field seems to wax and wane. IM or paeds? Probably not. Psychiatry? Thing is, I like EVERYTHING and I think I'd be sad if there were entire swaths of medicine that I just didn't deal...

Premed Post-mom: Hilton

http://www.premedpostmom.blogspot.com/2015/08/hilton.html

Life gets in the way while working towards a future in medicine. Saturday, 1 August 2015. I had a bunch of travel points so we booked to stay last night at a Hilton and it didn't cost us a cent. I usually stay at the very cheapest option, so this is quite the experience. We had a jacuzzi in our suite. The room was twice the size of my first apartment. Bathroom, little kitchen and dining areas. Living room space. The house is 'meh' - big, but not as nice as I'd hoped. My husband like it a lot. We ...I am ...

Premed Post-mom: Inconvenient Amnesia

http://www.premedpostmom.blogspot.com/2015/08/inconvenient-amnesia.html

Life gets in the way while working towards a future in medicine. Monday, 17 August 2015. The last time we finished a room I said "I don't care what it costs, next time we will pay for someone to do the seamfilling. I am never mudding a room again.". Then someone came back, said it'd be $500-$600 to mud my office and we promptly said 'nope! We're most of the way through the first coat and I am remembering my words of four years ago. I hate hate hate hate mudding. Die seams, die. Doctor Grumpy in the House.

Premed Post-mom: Cardboard Forest

http://www.premedpostmom.blogspot.com/2015/07/cardboard-forest.html

Life gets in the way while working towards a future in medicine. Saturday, 25 July 2015. Packing is 80% done. We've gotten everything set up and confirmed. Everything in need of booking is booked. Right now, we just need to finish the packing, clean the house and drive. Just. Like it's that easy. Still, it'll get done. We're efficient when we want to be. Our life is changing completely. It feels so weird. I feel like the dog that finally caught the car. Now what do I do with it? 25 July 2015 at 22:22.

Premed Post-mom: Chasing Dawn

http://www.premedpostmom.blogspot.com/2015/07/chasing-dawn.html

Life gets in the way while working towards a future in medicine. Friday, 31 July 2015. We are just outside of Rivière-du-Loup right now. There was a big storm in New Brunswick so we were just crawling for a while and lost some time. Still on track to hit Hamilton by supper, though. The animals are doing well. The birds are happier than the cats. We have a long way to go yet but we'll get there. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A Cartoon Guide to Becoming a Doctor. Doctor Grumpy in the House. MD or bust: Patience and Impatience

http://mdorbust.blogspot.com/2015/08/patience-and-impatience.html

My Doctor Reading List. My Doctor Reading List. Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Wanting to go to medical school requires a ton of patience. Even if you go the traditional route, it requires so much patience. When you want to go as a mature student or a non-trad, it requires even more. Stick him in front of the TV with some chocolate to buy me the time to sneak out and my husband to finish his call. Anyway, vent over, time to hit the books. First exam is a week away! MD or bust: So it begins again

http://mdorbust.blogspot.com/2015/07/so-it-begins-again.html

My Doctor Reading List. My Doctor Reading List. Tuesday, July 14, 2015. So it begins again. Right now I'm sitting in the library of the university that I am taking a Chemistry course. Its so cool to be a student again and I'm glad that the things I'm learning are starting to click. And its nice to see that I'm not nearly the oldest student in the class - there is a woman in my class that has to be in her 40s and even brings her kid along to class! And I've set myself up for success. Mango on an apple.

MD or bust: Feeling discouraged

http://mdorbust.blogspot.com/2012/04/feeling-discouraged.html

My Doctor Reading List. My Doctor Reading List. Tuesday, April 10, 2012. I'm feeling really discouraged today and having one of those "what the HELL am I doing? Moments. Honestly, the MCAT is scaring me so much that I've started researching other options if I don't get accepted here, such as applying to Australia where my GPA is higher, MCAT minimums are lower and competition (for international spots) is less fierce, but its also not without its downside. http://mdorbust.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

My Doctor Reading List. My Doctor Reading List. Wednesday, May 7, 2014. I've decided to start a new blog about money management for families. Its called Mommies and Cents: A modern mommy's guide to money management:. It doesn't mean that I've given up on medicine completely. I haven't. And the older I get the more I realize that even if it doesn't happen till I'm older, that's ok. I'm going to be older anyway. If it doesn't happen at all, that's ok too. The future is exciting. http://mdorbust.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

My Doctor Reading List. My Doctor Reading List. Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Today I found out that another pre-med hopeful. Mother of two and online friend of mine has realized her dream, and has been accepted into medical school! I'm so proud of her. Anyone who knows anything about how incredibly difficult it is to get into medical school will know what an amazing accomplishment this is. Well done, Kay - though I must say, I didn't doubt for a moment that you would make it. Monday, May 4, 2015. Doctor Grumpy...

http://mdorbust.blogspot.com/2013/09/snob.html

My Doctor Reading List. My Doctor Reading List. Monday, September 16, 2013. Soits been over 6 months since my last blog post. This is mostly related the fact that I gave birth to an absolutely adorable baby boy. He is perfect and we all love him to pieces. Want to do. My husband says its a good thing - that eliminating things that I don't want to do will make it easier to narrow down what I do want to do eventually. Well, we will see! MD or bust: Failure

http://mdorbust.blogspot.com/2012/09/failure.html

My Doctor Reading List. My Doctor Reading List. Tuesday, September 18, 2012. I got my second MCAT test results back. And I did worse. Worse than I expected and WORSE THAN BEFORE. I knew I would do worse in the sciences (except I remained the same in Physical Sciences) but my verbal reasoning score went down. I'm sitting in tears now as I write this because my score is now so low I'm sure I don't stand a single chance, not at McMaster, not anywhere. I feel like such a failure. My Doctor Reading List. My Doctor Reading List. My Doctor Reading List. So here is a list of some of my favorite books that I've read. So, You Want to Be a Doctor, Eh? A Guidebook to Canadian Medical School" by Dr. Anne Berndl. But overall, this is the book I would recommend that EVERY med school hopeful read. Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer" by Siddhartha Mukherjee. The Night Shift" by Dr. Brian Goldman. This is a great and easy read - I read it in like two days! http://mdorbust.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

My Doctor Reading List. My Doctor Reading List. Tuesday, March 31, 2015. I started reading this book "On Immunity: An Inoculation". By Eula Biss recently and I love it. It does such a great job of delving into the fears and perception of risk we have in society especially when it comes to medical interventions. Plus the author writes so well, I don't feel like I'm reading a heavy scientific text but almost like a magazine op-ed. However, she responded saying that she strongly believes that vaccines are b...

Pre-Med, Post-Bac | I must REALLY want to go to medical school.

I must REALLY want to go to medical school. How I Study: Biology. I basically approach each biology class unit (could be a lecture or a serious of lectures on the same topic) with three goals in mind: familiarize myself with the material, figure out what the important stuff is, and connect the important stuff to the rest of the course. Try an whittle that day’s notes down to a few key points or concepts, and also make note of any vocabulary that you need to work on. What could cause that pathway to fail?

Wednesday, November 21, 2012. How Does Leverage and Debt Impact Returns on Residential Real Estate? As a speculative investment, residential real estate has the potential to make or lose vast sums of money due to the impact of financial leverage (debt). Houses are typically leveraged at 80% of their value. During the Great Housing Bubble, this leverage was often provided at 100% by various lenders. Combine these facts with the near elimination of loan underwriting standards allowing anyone to participate...
