Tuesday, 9 September 2014. Prep 2 have started the year exploring simple machines and mechanisms ready for Monday's trip to Legoland! We worked together on different projects, each time identifying which mechanisms were doing the 'work'. We used cogs, wheels and axles, screws, pulleys, levers, wedges and ramps in our activities. Friday, 16 May 2014. Prep 2 had a fantastic time this afternoon making Rainbow Salad Wraps as part of the Jamie Oliver Guinness World Record attempt for the largest cookery lesson. To start, we watched Jamie's live broadcast and learned about Food Revolution Day, some of the countries involved and the recipe! Wednesday, 4 March 2015. 2GB Theme week.Tuesday. A focus on the Terracotta Army fitted perfectly with a visit from Tiger in Prep 7 who lives near to the site. He told us lots of information and it was lovely to hear some real Chinese being spoken! We then went to the Art Studio and created our own Terracotta Army! Thursday, 27 March 2014. Sadly this was our last week at Forest School but Prep 2 made the most of every minute. We started our morning with some pond dipping, which the children had been looking forward to all term. Unfortunately, as it had been very cold and frosty the day before, we did not find much wildlife. However, there was plenty of frogspawn to look at! Friday, 27 February 2015. After the excitement of seeing 2 deer on our way in (please excuse the poor photo-the children were desperate to include it! We settled in for a session on maps. We started by studying and then following the Forest School map, learning about scale, orientation, symbols, features and directions! Friday, 13 February 2015. This week we started to think about distance, measurements and scale. Challenge 1: find a stick, 1 metre long. A little ongoing evaluation.then final guesses:. Measuring to find a winner:. And, the birthday boy gets it! We spent some time discussing and considering a metre and ways of estimating, Pete uses his hip height, Mrs Jeffrey uses her arm span. Challenge 2: Find a stick of 50cm, 1m, 2m and 3m (by eye, without using any equipment! Here are our entries to the competition!

We made these spinning rhyme machines to find families of rhymes that we can use to write our own poem next week! Make sure you look out for our poems on display soon!
