Tralfaz was the original name of the lovable pet dog that the Jetson’s adopted. One of my first pets was an Old English Mastiff who was named Astro in a tip of the hat to Astro Jetson. When it was time to pick a domain name in 1998, Tralfaz was my choice, but sadly, the .com variant was already taken (and has remained off the market), so I picked Tralfaz.org. A mess of clones filled my life, until I bought my first Mac. It was a Mac SE, the one with the 6″ monochrome monitor built in. It go...My educatio...

From there I went to a Sports bar, then a seafood cafe, then a country club, and finally to a local Italian chain (Florentines. They seem to be gone). At the last stop, I spent lots of time running a kitchen, and then being the fill in guy. I could drop into any location and work through any shift. It is not something I bring up too often. I am not ashamed of this history, but people instantly ask questions like “Why did you stop? 8221;, “Don’t you miss it? Follow Geoff on Twitter. Get posts by email.

Damn you Netflix – Death in Paradise. July 28, 2015. Trying to avoid opening the work laptop yesterday, I was browsing Netflix, and one of their recommendations just popped under my remote. Death in Paradise. A BBC detective show. The premise is somewhat weak, the pilot showed a police officer in Sainte Marie (Martinique in the Carribean) was killed with some unusual circumstances. An inspector from Scotland Yard is sent over to solve the case. Now I have three seasons to watch. Tags ‘n stuff.

Got Called a Hipster. July 24, 2015. In a discussion on slashdot. About the Apple Watch, where the consensus was that it was a product looking for a solution, and that there weren’t any compelling applications for it. I mentioned that I was considering buying an Apple watch for this purpose. (note to Babs: I am not buying one, just considering it.). I clearly am concerned about my. Yeah, that describes me to a T. Product Review – Wahoo Fitness Cycling sensors. July 13, 2015. I grew up bicycling, and returned to it semi seriously many times. Gear is important, and the changes in gear have been stunning. I remember my first good road bike, splurging for clipless shoes and pedals. My first cycling computer. A tiny Cateye thing. Worked great, put several thousand miles on it. Fast forward to today. Cycling computers are so. There are still dedicated cycling computers, with Garmin. Making some strong contenders. It is...

The exterior detail – washing. July 16, 2016. July 16, 2016. Before you can begin a proper detailing of a car exterior, you must start with a good wash, and I don’t mean just run it through the wash at the local gas station, or even a “better” wash at a dedicated car wash franchise. The Two Bucket Wash. The gold standard is something known in the detail world as a two bucket wash. This is pretty important, as it is crucial to clean without just rubbing the dirt particles into your paint and finish. While...

Back on the Diet Train. July 17, 2015. Two weeks in, back on the Perfect Diet Tracker, counting calories, and making sure I track everything. Down 9 pounds – I am sure at least half is water, I am beginning to feel better. The old adage rings true. Calories in less than calories burned = weight loss. Yes, it was easier before I turned 40, but it still works. The secret is to count everything that passes the lips. I am lucky that I have enough will power to not give in to the sweet tooth. Almost 2 decades...

It just isn’t fair … – Tralfaz
http://tralfaz.org/2015/08/it-just-isnt-fair
It just isn’t fair …. August 7, 2015. All my life (ok, most of my life at least) I have played guitar, wishing that I could crest a plateau that has evaded me. Alternate picking, one of the foundations of shredding on guitar, has been a skill I struggled with. Of course I tried often. A lot of exercises. Training videos by Al di Meola, Paul Gilbert, Rusty Cooley all bought, watched and attempted. All failed. Add in 25 years to the equation, and it was bleak. Curse you music gods. Seen in Silicon Valley.

I am a product manager. I have been one for nearly 15 years now. I saved my pennies from my paper route, and bought my own. Since the Apple’s were significantly out of my price range, I became an Atari man. (The Commodore 64 came later and I never did go down that path). While this was unfolding, I attended San Jose State University, and got a degree in physics. The career …. I was working for a small, local company that made Confocal Microscopes and line width metrology tools. These tools were commo...
