Friday, May 10, 2013. There are no shortage of Challenge Walks in the Country. There’s something for everyone in the walking calendar, depending on your level of fitness and ability. As a relative newcomer to the hill walking game it’s hard to decide on which ones to do, especially when your mountain skills knowledge is pretty basic. You tend to rely on others to walk with or, in some cases, a good clear day. In the one day. On the 27th of April it was the turn of the ‘Glencush Horseshoe’. It felt a bit ...

Tuesday, April 10, 2012. The Downward Spiral Continues. There isn’t a week that goes by where an Irish based Life and Pension company complains about the perilous state of their market. They are all in a ‘race to the bottom’ as they struggle with profitability and retention of business. How can they all survive a decrease like 60%? The thing is, it’s not the regulator’s problem. The Life and Pension companies have created the problem themselves and it would not make sense for the regulato...As far as I a...

Monday, June 25, 2012. Specified Illness Cover - Financial Tip. As most of you will know, Specified (Serious) Illness cover pays out a lump sum if you are diagnosed as suffering from one of a number of specified serious illnesses (ie Cancer, Stroke, Heart Attack etc.), as defined in the product providers policy document. If a ‘Critical Event’ happens (eg diagnosis of specified illness), then the insured must survive 14 days so that they are eligible to claim under the policy. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Wednesday, February 13, 2013. Conversion Option and Smoking. In a previous post I reported that : With Aviva/Hibernian Life. If you were a smoker when you took the original policy out but qualify as a non-smoker now, full underwriting (new proposal) is required to change the policy, during or at the end of the policy term. I am currently dealing with a case where the person converting is now a non-smoker, for a good number of years, and wants to 'covert' the policy with Aviva. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Pensions & Investments: In Praise of Hill Walking

Thursday, October 31, 2013. In Praise of Hill Walking. One of these days I’ll get back to blogging about Pensions and Investments). Bought a few years prior with the intention of ‘doing something’ with them, but never had. What’s it all about? It’s not all serene though. The craic, banter, slagging that goes on is migh...8221; m...
