What were we thinking?: April 2012

Saturday, April 28, 2012. Does My Uterus Speak to You? There I was, at the entrance to Denny’s, beckoning for the boys to follow me, when she saw me. The lady smiled as she watched my kids file into the restaurant. Her own son, who towered over her, held the door open for us. 8220;If you can do three, you can do four! 8221; she said emphatically. “I know. I have six.” And with that, she left the restaurant. This is not the first time I’ve heard this expression, but not always with my current numbers.

What were we thinking?: August 2012

Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Love Thy (Camping) Neighbor. About a month ago, we packed up our camping gear and headed south to Las Cañadas Campamento. In Ensenada, Mexico. After a two hour drive, we found the campground just south of the city and right off the highway. As we waited in line to enter the campground on that early Friday afternoon, we had no idea what to expect other than no reservations were needed for camping. But where should we camp? Chris asked her in Spanish. Saturday, August 25, 2012.

What were we thinking?: October 2012
http://polillo-family.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Thursday, October 11, 2012. I have this dream that life will settle into a normal pattern again one day and I will fall back into the blogging habit. However, today is not that day. Instead, I offer word vomit. Watch out for the spray. Andrew: "Where my kitchen? Me: "It's in a big box on its way to our new house in North Carolina.". Andrew: "Oh. Where my guitar? Andrew: "Oh. Where my kitchen? Me: Banging my head on the wall. And that, my friends, is all I have time to write r...

What were we thinking?: July 2012

Friday, July 27, 2012. He makes this look good. Yesterday, Benjy created a time machine to travel six months. Into the future. I told him I'd miss him, and he told me he'd be back. This morning, he fought aliens as Agent J from the Men in Black. And when he grew bored with that,. He transformed into a ninja. When you're five, you can reinvent yourself at a moment’s notice with your imagination as your only limitation. Place, and no brother can take it from him. Backseat of the car on our way home from ca...

What were we thinking?: January 2013
http://polillo-family.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 28, 2013. Eleven days ago, the weather threatened to finally drop to temperatures meriting a winter coat- and not a hoodie- for the first time this winter. I was almost excited as I zipped Jacob into his heavy coat before school. Or maybe I was just relieved that I hadn't wasted money on a winter coat after all. Mom, I'm too hot," he protested as he climbed into the car. He slapped his head. "Oh! Why am I not surprised? We searched all over the school that afternoon, but we never found hi...

What were we thinking?: February 2012
http://polillo-family.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Deep Thoughts, Courtesy of the Solar System. There’s just something magical about a day that occurs only once every four years. It has a carpe diem. Feel about it, as if the day is an extra gift to make something special happen. Tradition has it that this is the one day a year that a woman can shake off the chains of tradition and propose to her man. In this modern post-feminist era, this hardly seems remarkable. We women don’t need a special day to make our ow...Even though...

Tuesday, January 31, 2012. Some things are just too good to let go. Andrew and his "bwoon". Sunday, January 29, 2012. In a moment of weakness over the weekend, my resolve to never see that blasted gingerbread house assembled was abandoned, and my children giggled maniacally at the thought of all those confectionery construction materials. It was disturbing. Despite my better judgment, I mixed the icing and helped Jacob build the house before leaving the three boys to the decorating. And you know what?

What were we thinking?: Winter Revelations or The Perks of Being Unaccompanied
http://polillo-family.blogspot.com/2013/01/winter-revelations-or-perks-of-being.html
Friday, January 25, 2013. Winter Revelations or The Perks of Being Unaccompanied. This cold weather has been thought provoking, though. As I was shivering at the bus stop waiting for the little darlings, I couldn't help but think how happy I was that I hadn't shaved my legs since Chris left. If he was here, I would definitely have been colder, and I do not like to be cold. So his absence was actually a blessing in disguise on this one morning. Now I feel positively liberated. Granted, it's a short li...
