July 22, 2015. Carotid Arteries are 2 large blood vessels in the neck that provide blood to the brain. It’s a health hazard when these arteries are clogged with cholesterol. Especially if a blood clot is formed, the blood can’t reach your brain leading to a stroke. There are 2 different screening tests involved: ultrasound and C-reactive protein screening. Carotid artery screening can occur via carotid duplex ultrasound or carotid intima media thickness ultrasound. Another method of screening is screenin...

July 15, 2015. From my previous post on Traffic-related Air Pollution and effect on Right Ventricle, I decided to dissect it for this week’s topic. Of the 6,814 men and women enrolled in MESA, 4,095 participants were measured for exposure for NO. The mean age of the study was 61.4 years and 52.6% were women. The study took into considerations of major cities: New York City, Baltimore, Chicago, St. Paul, and Winston-Salem. And right ventricle mass even though it had the highest exposure to NO. Another con...

Traffic pollution effects on Right ventricle – cardiovascularinasianamericans
https://cardiovascularinasianamericans.wordpress.com/2015/07/03/traffic-pollution-effects-on-right-ventricle
July 3, 2015. Traffic pollution effects on Right ventricle. I could not find a clinical trial on Asian American and cardiovascular diseases, but I did find a cohort study. To determine air pollution’s effects on the heart, this study specifically measured nitric oxide content. Also, study did not take participants that had clinical cardiovascular disease or weight greater than 300 lb. For more information click below. Http:/ www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4098110/. WBC and Stroke – cardiovascularinasianamericans
https://cardiovascularinasianamericans.wordpress.com/2015/08/07/wbc-and-stroke
August 7, 2015. A prospective cohort study was performed for 8 years to determine if there is an association between differential white blood cell count and incident stroke in older Asian population. This was actually part of Honlulu Heart program in Hawaii. The study took 3,342 Japanese-American men aged 71-93 who were free of stroke and WBC count at baseline of 1991-93. Therefore, physicians can’t predict stroke because of increase WBC count. For more information click the link below. On Bias and Confo...
