Life in the Shadowlands. And my thoughts along the way. A studious season of life. July 15, 2009 in Uncategorized. Once again, it’s been too long. Here are some quick blips about the books I’ve been reading the past 9 months or so. All God’s Children and Blue Suede Shoes. This one was more what I was looking for when I read the previous book, and he actually adopts Myers definition of culture. He helped give me a grid for evaluating certain aspects of culture with the following questions: What does i...

She had cut her hair. I was going to have a professional try and clean it up, but we couldn’t get her in until tomorrow afternoon. Since I wasn’t going to take her out in public as is, I did it myself. As it Turns Out…. Diary of an Arts Pastor. Life in the Button Factory. The History of the (Whole) World. The Well Trained Mind.

We’re reading down a list of words, and after sounding out each word, she moves on to a vocabulary lesson:. Hop (she stands up and starts hopping). Mop (she stands up and pretends to mop). Top (she pats her head). Lop… what’s lop? Like you lopped off your hair). Nod (she nods her head). Rod… what’s rod? Like a shower curtain rod monkey:. As it Turns Out….

I have a very part-time business teaching early childhood music classes that my girls participate in. I think about a lot of stuff. When I was a kid, I liked to provide commentary for my life in my head (think Wonder Years), wondering what it would be like if others could listen in. This is your chance! As it Turns Out…. Gallifordventures: Elise to the ER
http://gallifordventures.blogspot.com/2008/10/elise-to-er.html
Wednesday, October 22, 2008. Elise to the ER. Tuesday evening, 6:30pm- The girls are playing outside. Is that screams or laughter I hear? Kaila is more traumatized by this than Elise, because she blames herself. Elise will never remember it, and I pray the scar won't be too bad. I knew this day would come, and figured it would be Elise first- -but I didn't get my first stitches until I was 5, so I thought we might have a few more years. October 23, 2008 at 5:41 AM. Although I feel worse for Kaila! To the...

Gallifordventures: Christmas in Charleston
http://gallifordventures.blogspot.com/2009/01/christmas-in-charleston.html
Thursday, January 22, 2009. A day at the beach- playing in the sand and flying kites. Elise fell off the couch and sliced her ear on the fireplace- instead of the ER this time, we opted on gluing her back together. I'm sure there's many more to come, but this is now the third scar on her head in 2 months. After delivering flowers to the nursing home and some neighbors, the girls got to 'drive' the local firetruck. Christmas Morning The four of us kayaking Christmas day- not your typical winter activity!

Sunday, March 30, 2008. I have been working on my taxes and my quarterly bank reports, but this will be our January-March pictorial. Kaila had four celebrations for her 4th birthday. We opted not to do a party with her little friends, and I'm sure we won't be able to get away with that next year. This picture was taken on her actual birthday in Ft. Myers, FL on New Year's Eve. Kaila, the adorable flower-girl, watching the waves on the beach- camera in tow! FYI: There is an ice skating rink at The Plaza o...
