Purposeful Wandering

Tuesday, July 24, 2007. I talked with my mom today. A Tuesday. In the din of rush hour traffic, I stood with a cellphone pressed to my ear. my free hand pressed to the other ear. Staring at my shoes, I spun slow circles next to my bus stop, and talked to mom. Mom had been on my mind all day yesterday, maybe more so than any other day. I'd tried her on the phone once. No one answered, and I didn't leave a voicemail. I didn't have to. She called me today. She knew. They gave me a gift. one so sacred, s...

Purposeful Wandering: Semi-obligatory Chaing Mai post

http://www.purposefulwandering.blogspot.com/2006/05/semi-obligatory-chaing-mai-post.html

Tuesday, May 23, 2006. Semi-obligatory Chaing Mai post. Okay So I have a confession (or disclaimer): there are times when I write and post stuff on this blog which sucks. I mean sucks more than usual. This is one of those instances (still want to continue reading? I won't be offended). You see. most of the time when I write a post, I enjoy it. There's something that's inspired the idea behind the post. an experience, a conversation, a place, but most importantly a feeling. I. Okay, okay, so back to.

Purposeful Wandering: Scrabbler

http://www.purposefulwandering.blogspot.com/2006/09/scrabbler.html

Saturday, September 23, 2006. The dining table is still covered with a table cloth. the table cloth adorned with the stains from dinner earlier. All of us wear faces of sleepy concentration as we try to finish up an epic game of Scrabble. We've been at it for over an hour. Having polished off two chocolate bars between us, we're down to three tiles remaining in the bag. Very good, but he also sounds a bit like Nick Burns-Your Company's Computer Guy. Harry: "You know what mom hasn't made in a while? Stupi...

http://www.purposefulwandering.blogspot.com/2006/09/anyone-still-out-there.html

Monday, September 18, 2006. Anyone still out there? Blogging Technique Suggestions,. Brought to you by Blogger.com. 1 Write quality content and do it well. Proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar. (blah, blah, blah) Avoid run-on sentences, over using ellipsis ( the omission from a sentence of one or more words that would clarify the construction. Yup, I had to look it up too), and excessive parenthetical statements. What are these guys talking about? They just don't understand my style. I came up with ...

Friday, July 14, 2006. Tell them you love 'em. Are Do it today. pick up that phone. June 12, 1979 - July 14, 2005. Loved more than ever -. Song: P.S. You Rock My World. I was at a funeral the day i realized. I wanted to spend my life with you. Sitting down on the steps at the old post office. The flag was flying at half mast. And i was thinking 'bout how. And maybe it's time to live. I don't know where we're going. I don't know what we'll do. Walked into the thrif-tee. Saw the man with the hollow eyes.

curiously lost: Why Antarctica?

http://curiouslylost.blogspot.com/2007/09/evans-again.html

One path, diverging directions. Friday, September 21, 2007. There are many, many moments when I wonder why the hell I live in Antarctica. Usually this question follows a meal at the galley (our dinning hall), especially during winfly when the freshies (fresh vegetables and fruit) are at an all time low and my diet restricts me from seven eigths of the meal. Mush only tastes so good for so long. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). 90 Degrees South (an Ice Artist). Learning to Love You More.

curiously lost: January 2008

http://curiouslylost.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html

One path, diverging directions. Tuesday, January 8, 2008. 2nd Graders Question the Antarctic. I got an email from Mary, a 2nd grade classroom teacher from my hometown in Iowa last week. She had been in contact with my mom, curious to know if I would take my brother's previous role of answering her classes questions about Antarctica. When I got the list of questions, I felt so giddy to answer them. These students curiousity is really exciting! I feel honored to answer all these great questions:. All of th...

curiously lost: June 2007

http://curiouslylost.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html

One path, diverging directions. Saturday, June 23, 2007. When J described me in Beijing she used the term, languid. This word, just simply the way it feels in my mouth, rolling off my tongue, articulates how relaxed I feel here. In Japan, I loved the sereneness, the quietness, the generosity of the people, the saturated etiquette, the gardens, and the onsens. I loved the onsens. (And I love my friends there, which definitely can not be left out! But China, china feels so light and pliable. Permeable ...

Their objective was to help paint a literacy center. People will be able to come and learn to read in their indigenous language. Saturday, April 13, 2013. Maybe, Crazy, Good? I have this itty bitty inkling. And it’s creeping and it’s crawling. And it’s sneaking and it’s calling. This little quiet suspicion. And some days I pay attention. And some days I have no recollection. What I hear whispered through my ear. It makes me laugh, it makes me cry. It makes me scream and wonder why. The audacious thought in my head. I run from it, I run to it. I come unglued by it. Thursday, April 4, 2013. Dodging thoughts like bullets. I recently ...
