Lucky Lockie: Kayaking serendipity
http://luckylockie.blogspot.com/2013/05/kayaking-serendipity.html
Monday, May 06, 2013. After a half dozen sessions in this pool this winter, practicing rolls with Geoff, I've been fortunate enough to take advantage of great spring kayaking conditions. I kicked off the season with two fun runs down the Credit River. In town, with Amanda one day and Ian the next. But that was just super mellow class II stuff - the real action began last weekend when Amanda and I ventured up to the Head River. While carrying our boats back and scouting the run, we saw a fish trying to ju...

Lucky Lockie: April 2013
http://luckylockie.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 15, 2013. Beware the killer drone. There are clubs in Toronto to cater to every possible interest, sport and hobby. Some are mostly for day-dreaming (Alpine Club of Canada) or weird fringe sports (underwater hockey). I joined a bunch of programming-related groups last year, but hadn't gotten around to going - they've either not been presenting something that interests me, or the travel time just seemed overly onerous. And, it was in the MaRS Commons offices, in the same floor of my building!

Saturday, January 25, 2014. Landed in Hong Kong. Met Brendan and co, had a beer in what could have been Kensington Market if Chinatown expanded (i.e. nice, bustling, pedestrian-friendly), time to crash. Setting the bar low for photos. Lucky Lockie: Ice climbing with the Agawa Canyon train
http://luckylockie.blogspot.com/2014/05/ice-climbing-with-agawa-canyon-train.html
Thursday, May 08, 2014. Ice climbing with the Agawa Canyon train. The train runs the 300 miles between the Soo and Hearst, but we wouldn't be getting off at a station. Rather, we disembark at mile marker 112, and ask the train to pick us up at the same place at a later date, then just trust that it does! Upon arrival, we jumped into the snow after our baggage, and joked about having made a terrible mistake as the sight and sounds of the train faded into the distance. Of course, the train arrived much lat...

Blahdaize: October 2006
http://blahdaize.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html
Intermittent rambling, because I can. Wednesday, October 11, 2006. Swansea Area All Candidates Meeting. Well since I'm living in the Bloor West Village / High Park area I decided to wander down to the Toronto Ward 13 all candidates meeting. I'm not normally a political junkie, in fact this is the first time I've ever attended a candidates meeting. The candidates for city councillor that showed up for the evening were, in the order they arrived and spoke: Greg Hamara. David Garrick, Bill Saundercook.

Intermittent rambling, because I can. Tuesday, February 03, 2009. Canadian Ski Marathon 2009 - Food Test. The Problem: Find a delicious, high energy supper to pack for the Canadian Ski Marathon (CSM). My preferred solution is to use some of those store-bought freeze dried instant wonder meals. Just add hot water and wait for a complete meal to emerge. Not gourmet but they are crazy lightweight to pack and they supply a pretty hefty load of calories. The downside? After about 10 minutes I wandered back ou...

Intermittent rambling, because I can. Tuesday, February 13, 2007. Canadian Ski Marathon 2007. I've finally recovered enough to write a quick post about my experience doing the CSM ( Canadian Ski Marathon. A couple of weeks ago. PWN beat me to the punch, since he has already posted his adventures here. I've posted some pictures from the event here. May as well jump in with both feet! I signed up and immediately started to panic. What had I gotten myself into? P and I each had our own personal challenges t...
