The Best Literature Should be Triggering — Old Musty Books
http://www.oldmustybooks.com/editorial/the-best-literature-should-be-triggering
Writing and Editing Experience. The Best Literature Should be Triggering. May 18, 2015. This is an interesting article about the idea of putting trigger warnings on literature, specifically in this case, Ovid’s “Metamorphoses” due to the sexual assault and rape depictions in both, Persephone and Daphne. I actually think this is an important article to consider because once we start putting trigger warnings on literature, its a whole lot easier to slide down the path of book banning in our school systems.

Abusive Practices at Church. October 17, 2015. I can’t help but wonder if when John the Baptist started preaching and dunking people in the water, and then some guy named Jesus started walking through the country being kind to the down-trodden, were they seen as cult-leaders (whatever the ancient equivalent term may have been)? Both had followers that believed whole-heartedly in things that were “new” and “different” from the past religious beliefs. Attacks on others who may not share one’s beliefs.

I was drawn to the article below due to its mention of Dorothy Parker, as I really enjoy all things Dorothy Parker and Algonquin Roundtable – its probably more the time period than the actual people, though I really admire Parker’s bluntness.
