To make the sound you blow through a double reed which is attached to a curved silver pipe called the "crook". The reed can change the pitch of a note depending on where you blow it. You can play whole tunes on the reed alone! Bassoon music is usually in the bass clef, but because it has such a big range the higher notes can be written in the tenor clef. Create a free website. You hold it horizontally (transverse) to the right of you and blow across the hole in the mouthpiece. See if you can get a sound out of blowing across the top of a glass bottle. The flute is in the key of C, so can play the same music as the piano, oboe, violin and recorder for example. Its music is in the treble clef, and has a range of three octaves. Create a free website. Things to think about. Things people say about me. It's Been A While 10/10. Somy pupils have pointed out the blog has been quiet. Sorry! What would you like here? Anyway we are almost back to 10/10 operational fingers. Bit more practice and they should be back to normal! Nine out of ten. So, I'm still struggling with only nine fingers. Today I'm finding this even more frustrating, as a stack of lovely new flute music has arrived, but I can't try it out yet. Ho hum. Well done to all my pupils last term.

I try and make sure each student progresses with theory at the same rate they work through their exam levels (whether or not they take each exam).
