cellodreams: June 2007
http://cellodonna.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 30, 2007. A sticky situation at orchestra. Entering the high school band room where our pops orchestra practices. It feels like a sauna in here.". It was so hot and humid you could taste it. And it tasted like "school." The oscillating fan didn't help much except to occasionally blow the sheet music off the stand. Was it the heat? An accumulation of rosin? Contact with the unidentified sticky substance lurking on my music stand? Fortunately I was able to clean the fingerboard and neck when...

Sunday, December 31, 2006. It was a good year. The magnificent experience of being part of an orchestra. Healthy lifestyle changes through daily walking, menu modifications, etc. hopefully contributing to many more years to spend practicing. A spacious dining room thanks to Hammacher Schlemmer's folding console table. Creating more room for practice. Worth mentioning although no cello connection). Posted by cellodonna @ 4:18 PM. Wednesday, May 30, 2007. Memorable Moments in May. Surviving the experience as "the lone cellist" at orchestra the night when the other cellists were both absent. A compliment that same night on my playing from first violinist R. Maestro instructing me to "die faster" on the final note of. Venturing Through the House. One of the original horror movie pieces we'll be recording (more info on that to follow in a future blog entry). Feeling good about taking a much-needed break from my cello lesson this week.

cellodreams: April 2007

Wednesday, April 25, 2007. S " Lousy lesson. Post today, I started to think about all the variables that are present when we sit down to play the cello. Considering all the possible combinations and permutations of endpin length, chair height, cello angle, music stand height, bow hair tension, tuning, room acoustics, lighting, and atmospheric conditions such as temperature and humidity, is it any wonder that we encounter difficulties in our playing and performing? It's doubtful that we. Most importantly,...

CelloGeek: January 2011
http://cellogeek.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 1, 2011. I added up my practice hours in 2010 and it totaled 561 hours. It is almost the same number of hours as last year. I was pretty happy because I traveled so much more this year - nearly 120 days - taking out nearly 4 months of practice time. Each year I've set a goal of averaging an hour a day for the year. Maybe this year I could try to break 600 hours, which would be a worthy stretch goal. Control the volume. Would love to control those crescendos and decrescendos! Kenneth Woo...

CelloGeek: It's been ages since I posted

Sunday, November 21, 2010. It's been ages since I posted. This summer I hit a lull in my cello playing but the travel break seems to have done me a lot of good. My cello teacher commented at my lesson that my tone has improved and that I am starting to play lyrically. That felt good! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. To become absorbed in thought; especially : to turn something over in the mind meditatively and often inconclusively – in the case of this blog – a cello. Laquo; Lesson Notes 6/13/2009. I think we spent a total of two hours covering Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. MHN from here on out). As I reflect back on almost three years of learning the cello, I can loosely map my journey to MHN. So how does this map to MHN? Safety: For me, safety was taking lessons. Improving my skills to a point that I could make...

Thursday, July 1, 2010. Videos from our last concert. These are 2 videos from 2 concerts (same program). What a fun program, including selections of music from the game Halo, Rossini's William Tell Overture (I got to play cello 2 in the opening cello quintet! Our principal trumpet player did a solo, "Trumpeter's Lullaby" and did an excellent job! Below is the video from the first concert, which I missed because of traveling for work.
