Modelling the Western in Mid Wales (EM). Saturday, 15 August 2015. Adding a little character. Offered the most realistic and detailed figures at the current time, but that could quickly change thanks to Modelu. And could imagine Richard Burton narrating their stories, then thought the better of it:-) I've tried to position the figures so they tell a story in their own right rather than just plonk them down without any thought. Heather advised me on how to present this young lady as obviously she has more...

Llangunllo.: Its all falling apart!........

http://radnorailways.blogspot.com/2015/07/its-all-falling-apart.html

Modelling the Western in Mid Wales (EM). Thursday, 9 July 2015. Its all falling apart! For a good few months I've had a picture in my minds eye of a ruined weighbridge hut or gatehouse just beyond the quarry entrance gate. As you are probably aware the quarry itself was an afterthought and only modelled to provide a suitable location for the lever frame. Photo by John Haynes [CC BY-SA 2.0 (http:/ creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0)], via Wikimedia Commons. There is a little more of the ruins to see i...

http://radnorailways.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Modelling the Western in Mid Wales (EM). Thursday, 31 July 2014. Anyway enough of that, you will have to make do with some photos of trains this week. 4678 is still being used as the branch engine and is seen here arriving from with the local passenger train and some empty milk tanks. It looks like a storm is brewing over on those distant hills and if the fireman doesn't get a move on and uncouple those tanks he risks getting drenched. Jim has several Hornby / Lima 101's on the books and they look superb...

Llangunllo.: January 2015

http://radnorailways.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Modelling the Western in Mid Wales (EM). Wednesday, 14 January 2015. Towards the end of last year I actually completed the cottage that stands beside the signal box. I like this material as its really glass like in appearance and very easy to cut by simply scribing a line and then snapping the material along it, curtains are made from paper, painted with cheap artist acrylics to give a slightly faded look. A track side view, the allotments will be in the left foreground. Its my intention to model the all...

Llangunllo.: Stokes Cottage a Feedstore and a Fergie.........

http://radnorailways.blogspot.com/2015/05/stokes-cottage-feedstore-and-fergie.html

Modelling the Western in Mid Wales (EM). Thursday, 14 May 2015. Stokes Cottage a Feedstore and a Fergie. Kit of parts and the stone trough beneath it was made from some Milliput. I've made no further progress with modifying the Fergie tractor, whilst I shall add a number plate and tax disc I'm not sure whether my model will have a vertical exhaust or not. The Routemaster shows just how small these little tractors are. Before and after, once the posts have been cleaned up and thinned down styrene weather ...

Scribblings from Kashmir Cottage. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Culreoch – The Layout. Monthly Archives: June 2015. June 13, 2015. Anyway. I note the anniversary and I’m sure the other modellers who recreate the Galloway lines’ heydays will also bear it in mind as they work on their layouts. It’s turned out allright, given I’ve never got on with plasticard much before. Rainwater goods would finish it off nicely. It would have been nice to have this mechanically finished as a nod to ...

lnr model making: January 2015

http://lnrmodels.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Happy New Year Readers! Well, where did 2014 go? I know a lot of it for me went in unfinished personal modelling projects, but I was rather pleased with the row of cottages that I salvaged from disaster, and the viaduct. If you want to have a look at his epic thread on RMWeb, it's here:. Http:/ www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php? A lot of my models have been stand alone constructions and have not been bedded in to scenery, so it's been nice to finally see something in-situ. Tuesday, January 06, 2015.

The Caffeinated Engine Driver: The Minimalist Look

http://caffeine-train.blogspot.com/2015/08/the-minimalist-look.html

The Caffeinated Engine Driver. Thursday, August 13, 2015. Which is actually a slightly different Hudson-Hunslet design). While it all fits nicely, I'm not convinced it's the best cab design. I think of it as the sunhat of cabs; it will keep the sun off but if there is any rain you're still going to get very wet and miserable. Now I know the cutout works though I can have a look at a more enclosed cab. Labels: 24hp Hudson-Hunslet Diesel. August 13, 2015 at 8:28 PM. August 13, 2015 at 8:34 PM. Iain Robinso...

The Caffeinated Engine Driver. Friday, September 26, 2014. The Long Road To The Rhosydd Rubbish Tip. This is the fourth post on building a Rhosydd quarry rubbish wagon since I started back in June, but as you can see I've now completed the model. If you remember the first step. Was to design the 3D printed underframe and figure out how to build the top half from sheet brass. The second step. Was adding all those rivets before a quick third post. Tuesday, September 23, 2014. So how did I turn the rather t...

lnr model making: July 2014

http://lnrmodels.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

A row of cottages in the making…. In terms of the layout, well I've decided to relay the track yet again, and have gone for a 4 track mainline layout that will cross a viaduct - an unprototypical 4 track viaduct that has now been built and is in the mid-stages of being painted (but more of that in a later post (hopefully). Now - back to the topic of the post…. Some time ago in my last post I mentioned the building of a row of cottages and I'm pleased to say that progress has been made. Https:/ www.yo...

Chas's Model Railway: February 2014

http://chasmodelrailway.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

An OO gauge model railway. Tuesday, February 25, 2014. Seaside Cottages . and a new toy. At the moment I'm quite into the idea of constructing small dioramas so as to experiment with different modelling techniques in a small and contained area. I came across a photo of seaside cottages at Mousehole which I fancied having a go at modelling, full of character and in an attractive setting too. But should the walls be of embossed styrene sheet or DAS? Off the shelf, bespoke, home made? I read a discussion on...

Chas's Model Railway: December 2013

http://chasmodelrailway.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

An OO gauge model railway. Sunday, December 29, 2013. Seasons Greetings from the Westbay Hotel. As Google had gone to the trouble of adding snow to this image of the incomplete Westbay Hotel, I thought I would post it to illustrate the temperate climate of Westbay. No matter how much it snows, it never settles. Still plenty to do on the hotel in the new year - slating, guttering, balconies, signage and so on which I look forward to doing. In the meantime, a very happy new year to all. I have learned the ...

Well the original building I based the station building on, West Worthing, in the fifties had a double canopy at the front, and as of present day, it only retains the single canopy over the main entrance at the top of the steps - the gabled canopy over the steps having long gone:. Image courtesy of google maps. In this not great photo, you can see the canopy bracket and the supporting framework made from 1mm square styrene strip. I sprayed these with primer before gluing to the structure. At this point I...

Chas's Model Railway: October 2013

http://chasmodelrailway.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

An OO gauge model railway. Monday, October 28, 2013. Since finishing the parish church I have spent the last few weeks faffing about wondering what to build next. After only a brief few years modelling I am, I'm afraid, hooked and now when I have nothing to work on I feel at a loose end. Perversely though, I couldn't find the motivation to make anything. Very odd. Sunday, October 27, 2013. I have decided two things in the process. First, because I am easily distracted, building a diorama gives me a f...
