The Raleigh 8000: Benefiting Autism

The Raleigh 8000 presented by the Sawmill Tap Room is focused on promoting health and fitness in a fun atmosphere. This event will not only draw participants from the greater Raleigh area, but it will also benefit our community. Our race will benefit the Wake County Chapter of the Autism Society of North Carolina. ASNC) This 501c3 non-profit organization offers support groups, planned events and programs for Wake County families living with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

Eight weeks to a 8k. That is all it takes! The five mile race (or 8-K) serves as an "in-between" distance, almost an "offbeat" distance since it is not run that often. The five miler occupies a spot somewhere between the more popular 5-K and 10-K distances. Regardless of your skill level- whether novice, intermediate or advanced- legendary running coach Hal Higdon. Has an 8-week training program for that will get you to the finish line. Training for your first 5-miler or 8k.

The Tar River Running Company (TRRC) is an Event Management business owned and managed by Michael Forrester. Michael is a long time runner who created and directs the Sweetheart 5k, the Roanoke Canal Half Marathon, the Medoc Spring Races, the Raleigh 8000, the new Belmont Lake Preserve 5-Miler (coming soon), and the Goose Creek Trail Races. The Not So Rocky Road. For the long holiday weekend Charles and I headed to visit my Mom in Wilmington on Friday evening. Saturday morn started bright and shiny at 6:30 for my 5 miler which went pretty well! I finished in 56 minutes, which my pace was down at 11:12! Afterwards Mom and I hit up Dunkin D’s for an iced coffee and pumpkin muffin to go. We enjoyed a nice morning at Fort Fisher taking in the gorgeous weather while the hubs. Got his beauty sleep. The Raleigh 8000
RACE WILL NOT BE HELD IN 2015. And Pint Glass Awards. It is with mixed emotions that we announce the Raleigh 8000 will not be held this year. We have taken great pride in hosting this event for last four years. In that time we have hosted over 1,200 runners and raised over $12,000 for the benefit of Autism. There are certainly larger races and ones that have raised more money but we are very proud of what we have accomplished.
