500 Words: Some Choices Are Not Really Choices
http://smallglassplanet500.blogspot.com/2010/01/some-choices-are-not-really-choices.html
Sunday, 24 January 2010. Some Choices Are Not Really Choices. This week’s sentence was taken from Alan Paton. 8217;s desperate message from apartheid-era South Africa, ‘Cry, The Beloved Country’. 8216;Jarvis sat a long time smoking, he did not read any more.’. Some Choices Are Not Really Choices. Smoke curled and writhed, playing lazily in the bars of sunlight. Dust danced. The only movement. The desk bare but for a reading lamp, a bottle of good scotch, two cut-glass tumblers and the gun. The lamp s...

500 Words: The Fan
http://smallglassplanet500.blogspot.com/2010/02/fan.html
Saturday, 13 February 2010. This week’s sentence was taken from Louisa May Alcott’s ‘Little Women’. 8216; A pair of silk stockings, that pretty carved fan, and a lovely blue sash. Despite their occasional meetings they had never met. The room was always dark. Twice now he had glimpsed the hands: heavy, scarred, age-spotted, yet always immaculately manicured. Expensive suit. Understated. Now they sat, sipping scotch in stygian gloom, idle chatter after Mac's debriefing from the Macao job. One thing ….

Tuesday, 10 May 2011. With Gods On My Side. This month's assignment was to write precisely 500 words based on either the following photograph or alternatively on a quotation from a Jorge Luis Borges'. Short story, "Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius.". The quotation is "Some limited and waning memory of Herbert Ashe, an engineer for the Southern Railway Line, still lingers in the hotel at Androgué, among the effusive honeysuckle vines and in the illusory depths of the mirrors.". With Gods On My Side. Their self-...

500 Words: August 2011
http://smallglassplanet500.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, 13 August 2011. Breakfast On The Day That It Happened. The current assignment was to write precisely 500 words based on the photograph below. Breakfast On The Day That It Happened. Deux crèmes et deux croissants, s'il vous plait. Here's the tray. Smiles. Merci. A deep breath, inhaling coffee and letting it out in a long, shuddering sigh. Watching Clothilde at work is always a pleasure. Her smile infectious and unbreakable, even faced with the dismal onslaught of old JD. Breaking the end off my ...

500 Words: Passing Through
http://smallglassplanet500.blogspot.com/2009/11/passing-through.html
Saturday, 21 November 2009. This week’s sentence was taken from ‘American Notes’. He had ordered 'wheat-bread and chicken fixings,' in preference to 'corn-bread and common doings'.". New Providence. Just a wide spot on a dirt road. 'Jo-Beth's Family Diner. No Dogs. No Coloreds.' was a lean-to tar-paper shed hanging off the side of a clapboard wreck that looked for all the world like a tornado had simply dumped it there in disgust. He ducked under the lintel and let his eyes adjust to the gloom. Looking u...

negativespace: June 2014
http://negativespace-neetzy.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
This is my art space. I am drawn to the negative and the spaces between things both in my art and life. There is a little bit of both here. Friday, June 13, 2014. So my latest painting in progress. It needs a few fixes. I like to post these on here because I can see the glitches better. Some of it is oil paint shine. I also need to tweak that flower on the right. I will also go over the darks in the back. Some of the streaking is caused by glare, however. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Freedom of Thought: the omnipotent labour wizard
http://finn-freedom.blogspot.com/2009/02/omnipotent-labour-wizard.html
No censorship, no regrets! The omnipotent labour wizard. It's been very quiet around here, I know. I've been pretty busy with a lot of stuff and it will probably stay that way, but I have wanted to come back here and write something for a couple of days now and not even the weekend would provide enough time for that, so I'm using work time for blogging - I think it's a great idea! It's a bit nerve wrecking, everyone is entitled to their opinion and I keep incorporating changes but it seems to never end.

Monday, 14 March 2011. A big thank you to Petrea. For helping me get 500 Words going again after a long period of creative constipation. This time around, the story was based on her fabulous photograph from her equally fabulous Pasadena Daily Photo blog. Reproduced with her kind permission):. If you're new to 500 Words, you might want to read a few previous "Bartleby" stories before reading this one as Mackinson is a character who has developed over some time now.
