The riders were off and after about 30 seconds of riding in the pitch black surrounded by other slightly sketchy double riders, my mood lifted and I became happy again. I am usually quite happy on these rides. (unless I am at a rest stop- Rest stops make me cranky.). The Devil Mountain Double. I loved all the cheering and encouragement I got from other people all day. Not only did the Mount Hamilton pe...

May 27, 2013. Mirror, mirror on the wall. I like the punctuation. Explain yourself: Favorite Roads. May 20, 2013. Looking west as I climbed Hopland Grade from the west. KevinF wrote into the SFRandon list last Friday with the following query and then answered his own question. What are your favorite stretches of road in the Bay Area and why? Yeah, I remember riding there. That was great. Hopland grade is another favorite of mine and I resist listing that for the same reason above. 8221; he asked. I don&#...

Tag Archives: Duros West. How not to taper for a double. May 6, 2013. First of all, do not take off the Friday before the double. Taking off that Friday will just leave you relaxed and refreshed for the Double. It will also leave your co-workers in the lurch and you like them. Secondly, go ahead and do your usual Thursday ride. Don’t take it easy. The ride on Saturday will suck no matter what, so you might as well have a good time on Thursday. Michael and the Long Horns of Yountville. Bonk if you don...

August 10, 2013. I mostly ride our tandem with Jason, my long-suffering husband. However, he has taken to the water in the past couple of years and does not ride as much. 8221; Mark didn’t answer and instead gave the uneasy smile of a man who did not want to discuss an important decision in front of an audience. The audience, however, had no doubt that the bike would be bought. Mark and the purple tank in wine-land. March 31, 2013. OMG, I want to slap her. Why was I comforted when someone did? Seeing pic...

449 km: Two rocks, no waiting

Thursday, March 20, 2014. Two rocks, no waiting. Photos courtesy of Patrick. In the gentle landscape between the growing town of Petaluma and the coastline, there is a small, and perhaps mostly forgotten community named Two Rock, CA. Two Rock never became a commercial center, never became the western seat of finance, and in fact the road doesn't even widen as you pass through. Most people can travel along the highway here and never realize they've passed through a town, and never even notice the three.

Wednesday, November 4, 2009. Chasing the sinking sun. I'm wondering why more people don't plunk the money down for even minimal lights. For. Useful lights at REI. Hell, REI will mail them to you if you can't make it to one of their stores, and no doubt dozens of other retailers. Would do the same. Planet Bike is not the only company making better than adequate bike lighting either. Check out Cateye. So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking. Racing around to come up behind you again.

449 km: A Model ride
http://449km.blogspot.com/2014/08/a-model-ride.html
Wednesday, August 20, 2014. It is now April and I've managed to go more than three months without riding a permanent route. That is three months in Winter! And a return via Amtrak. The route first began life as a DART route when The Davis Bike Club. Hosted their first ever DART event in November of 2012. The route morphed into a permanent route later that year and in the coming year it will be a brevet route, part of another SFR double brevet weekend (used mostly to help train up for PBP). It might not b...
