Little black fishin’ poles. February 1, 2010. Plant of the Day. Black bamboo is cool, sophisticated and showy in an understated way. I first saw this plant in a garden center in Norfolk, Va., in 1975. The owner was very proud of his small grove, which contained maybe 30 canes about 10 feet high. Friday, July 27, 2012. Eastern Conference Additions Sansevieria. I get why people seem to dislike sansevierias, they're boring, you don't have to baby them, the flowers aren't too showy. But when you're gardening full time and living in tight quarters, the appeal of sanseverias take on an entire new playing field. I guess my interest in them really started about a year and a half ago when my co-gardener gave me one of those Saneveria cylindrica. I checked out some other varieties on Glasshouseworks.
