The Rational Parent

A geek's notes on rational parenting. Saturday, November 24, 2012. Looks pretty neat - reusable plastic rivets for building all kinds of things out of cardboard. I'l look around local shops see if I can find something equivalent. We'll start saving cardboard boxes. Wednesday, July 4, 2012. After reading about DragonBox here. To check out later when the kid is old enough. It won't be too long before it's possible to cover much of what's in a normal education through games like these. Tuesday, May 29, 2012.

Aha, a nice trick for manipulating your kid: use threats small enough that he rationalizes his compliance by changing his desires: The Forbidden Toy. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). To Miss With Love. The Rational Parent: August 2010

http://rationalparent.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

A geek's notes on rational parenting. Saturday, August 28, 2010. Gatto on the History of American Education. I just read an article on the history of American Education. By John Gatto - pretty thought-provoking stuff! Saturday, August 21, 2010. Found on Reddit, this blog post. Also, reading as punishment–what is that about? My friend was dumbfounded. “Why didn’t they talk to me about this? I could have told them what was happening.”. Monday, August 9, 2010. There's a subreddit Daddit. Now personally, I c...

The Rational Parent: February 2012

http://rationalparent.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

A geek's notes on rational parenting. Sunday, February 5, 2012. French Parents vs. American Parents. Ran across this interesting article. Probably an excess of anecdotes, but there's some interesting stuff on different approaches to setting boundaries (some that work, some that don't), about how to teach delayed gratification (have snacks at fixed hours, even if the kid knows you bought the candy before), teaching the kid to play by himself, not having all activities centered around the kid, etc.

The Rational Parent: October 2010

http://rationalparent.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

A geek's notes on rational parenting. Monday, October 18, 2010. On overprotecting your kids. I came across this article. That repeats some themes I tend to agree with. It found that even though abduction, robbery, assault and homicide statistics had not risen substantially over the past 50 years, parents were more anxious not only about what could happen to their children but also about how other parents perceived them. Ms Skenazy was branded "America's worst mom" after making a controversial decision in...

Rationality in Mad men. You are never quite sure. There was an error in this gadget. Friday, May 7, 2010. Agnostic Pakistan" was even worst. And this blog was born, whats really needed though is a forum. For now, this will have to do. I really dont feel like answering why when how. So I leave you with this:.
