Monday, 18 May 2009. Best before but cheaper after! I recently made an order to Approved foods, a company which sells food approaching it's best before date. The saving can be incredible - all the above for £20 plus delivery of £5.25. I haven't found anything bad yet, the tins of oats (50p each) are just the right size for when I make up a batch of muesli, The dates (£2.50) are delicious and yes that is a box of 3kg (I am going to be busy baking for a while! Haven't tried the spicy tomato ketchup yet.

Even the Greeks are unsure as to the difference between Best before dates and Use by dates! Best before means just that, in it's best condition but not poisionous after! Use by dates are the all important ones, although there is nothing wrong with using your sense of smell and sight (if you have them) just as our Mums and Grandmothers had to do.

Tuesday, 24 July 2012. We did go out, to a wonderful little zoo called tropical wings, complete with a butterfly house, meercats and giant rabbits - though not all in the same enclosure! We had ice creams and came home to eat, saving ourselves (over the weekend) at least £100.
