Reading all year long

Reading all year long. Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Creepy Presents Richard Corben. I wish I had discovered Creepy Magazine when I was a kid. However, I am enjoying the editions they are publishing now that feature a particular artist. This time Creepy is all about Richard Corben. Richard’s style reminds me of Tales from the Crypt. His image is a little like the Crypt Keeper so maybe that’s why. Creepy Presents Richard Corben is a collection of short comics from one page inserts to several page stories.

Reading all year long: February 2012

http://readingallyear.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Reading all year long. Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Ms Annie #1 Freedom by Frank Le Gall. This graphic novel was written for a young audience but is entertaining enough for any age. Miss Annie is a darling kitten of four months and this issue is a day in her life. She is finally old enough to go outside but she finds that outside isn’t necessarily as free as she thinks. Links to this post. Tuesday, February 28, 2012. The Nighttime Cabin Thief by Lynda Beauregard. The plot was enjoyable – shiny obj...

The two flocks have to battle an enemy that is recruiting fast and on a one way track to destroying all humanity. Links to this post. Tuesday, August 23, 2011. The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. Reading all year long: Freaks of the Heartland by Steve Niles

Reading all year long. Wednesday, July 11, 2012. Freaks of the Heartland by Steve Niles. This story was not what I had expected from Steve Niles. If you are not familiar with his work – they are usually violent, horrific stories. So one about freaks living in the sticks made me think I was picking up something similar to House of 1000 corpses. Instead what I got was a sweet story about two brothers. Trevor has to help take care of his brother Will, who has been chained up in the barn. The muted colors wo...

Reading all year long: Battlepug Volume 1 by Mike Norton

http://readingallyear.blogspot.com/2012/07/battlepug-volume-1-by-mike-norton.html

Reading all year long. Tuesday, July 3, 2012. Battlepug Volume 1 by Mike Norton. I had the privilege of being introduced to Mike Norton’s work when I read The Curse (due out in October). The work was so funny, over the top and featured a pug which made the story complete. When I had the opportunity to read his Battlepug, I knew I had to. I was not disappointed. Mike Norton has a dark sense of humor. Battlepug is sexy, funny and full of action. I lied – I was disappointed. The book ended far too soon.

The Afterword | Book Reviews

13, rue Thérèse’ by Elena Mauli Shapiro. November 21, 2012. What an interesting concept for a book! In terms of form, 13, rue Thérèse. Is unlike anything I’ve read, with the possible exception of Mark Z. Danielewski’s 2000 bestseller House of Leaves. Note to self: re-read that one for a review! Though Shapiro isn’t easy on her readers the novel is nonlinear, incorporates photographic images, fraught with footnotes and encourages online interaction 13, rue Thérèse. November 16, 2012. Reading Alma 5 | A Mormon Theology Seminar Project

A Mormon Theology Seminar Project. Shepherded into the Book of Life: Alma 5:57-62. August 1, 2011. This project—this whole summer—has flown by. I’m a bit perturbed to be writing the last post. Frankly, I hope there’s a bit of retroactive participation, returning to previous posts to further the discussion. In the meanwhile, however, it’s my task to begin addressing the last six verses of the text. Read more…. From → Uncategorized. Alma 5:49-56 – Speedily Repent. July 26, 2011. A Solitary Book Club

A Solitary Book Club. Reading what I want to read, when I want to read it. Tuesday, May 27, 2008. As an English major, I had to read Beowulf in college about five or six times, but my enjoyment of the story never seemed to diminish - until I saw Neil's dreadful movie version. And just for kicks and giggles, let's add John Gardner's contribution, the modern novel Grendel. Still reading - will edit when finished. Thanks for stopping by! Links to this post. Reading Aloud

This website is dedicated to promotion of a simple concept: grown-ups entertaining each other by reading aloud for fun. There are serveral worthy organizations promoting parents reading aloud to children. Our interest is in grown-ups (sadly "adult" has taken on an internet meaning that rules out that word from our discussion). The sponsors and friends of readingaloud.org hope you will consider getting together with friends on an evening of enjoying the sound of each other's voices reading literature.
