reading with my mom

Reading with my mom. May 31, 2011. While walking through the grocery store parking lot tonight I overheard a mom say to her daughter (teenager) "You should read this book I'm reading." I wanted to reach over and tell that daughter to read the book. Take advantage of the moment. How many times did my mom say that to me? Seriously.a million times. And how many times did I read the book.not many. So, here I am aimlessly making my way through her bookcases, searching for that connection. I suppose what I hav...

reading with my mom: August 2010

http://readingwithmymom.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Reading with my mom. August 26, 2010. Have you ever noticed how the right people come into your life at the exact moment you need them most? Not one to pass up a new opportunity, my mom joined the project. In doing so we met Dr. John Bryson.or Dr. John (as my mom would say). Dr. John was the perfect connection for mom. He's intelligent, likes travelling, LOVES reading, likes new technology, and listens to CBC radio! This novel begins with a teenage girl, Cynthia, waking up one morning to find her entire ...

Reading with my mom. February 2, 2011. No thanks Dean Koontz. About a gazillion people have read these books.how? I can't do it. I guess my fear is a testament to Dean Koontz ability to pull a reader into his novels with descriptive and compelling text. Do I get too emotionally involved in the books I read, perhaps. This is one situation where I wish I could ask my mom how she could read this stuff without being psychologically scared. Although, maybe she was? Links to this post. CBC - Canada Reads.

reading with my mom: January 2011

http://readingwithmymom.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Reading with my mom. January 24, 2011. This novel weaves pieces of Canadian history through it's pages. Set in the days of WWI, and encompassing the great Hamilton explosion to the devastation of the Spanish Flu. I must say the passages that dealt with the Spanish Flu had me wondering why I hadn't made it to the doctor's office yet for my shot this year! I don't dare wade into this discussion. My second daughter was born in my home bathtub, with the assistance of a midwife. Reading this book I felt l...

Reading with my Twin

Reading with my Twin. The Amazingly Specific Insults of Dmitri Prokovich Razumihin. October 9, 2012. This blog has been known to take enjoyment in the antiquated put-downs of classic literature (cf. “Son of a Rum Puncheon! 8221;)…but no one matches Razumihin in the department of withering zingers. What he lacks in brevity he makes up for in amazing specificity. Here’s how he lays it on Raskolnikov. You are made of spermaceti ointment and you’ve lymph in your veins instead of blood. A girl who could spent her whole life stuck in the world of fantasy and romance. Review: Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson. August 5, 2015. August 5, 2015. Second Chance Summer was the last book I had left to read by Morgan Matson and it did not disappoint. It is one of them novels that definitely will have you crying a river once you complete it. It has now become one of my favorite books I have read this year and will be reread in the future. I think Morgan Matson is very good at writing sad scenes...
