all these things...and a mom: I've moved!
http://andamom.blogspot.com/2014/06/ive-moved.html
Jun 23, 2014. I'm not a lot of things and. A mom I'm a mom. Am I other things, too? Absolutely. Does being Brynna's mom define me? Not completely. It's not her job to define me. I am who God made me to be to do the things He created me to do. But one of those things is to be her mom. Not just to birth her or put up with her. To be a real. I'm less than perfect SO THAT He can be more than enough. That's why the name changed. That's why realmom.org. Of mom I am. From now on, you'll find me blogging here.

Our Blessed Nest: new focus and goals
http://solkoblessednest.blogspot.com/2015/04/new-focus-and-goals.html
Thursday, April 9, 2015. New focus and goals. This week marked one year of exercising. And not just here and there exercising - consistently exercising 5 days a week. I added in MyFitnessPal at the end of the month, so my 365 day streak on that site is quickly approaching. Annnnnd I'm a nerd, so I'm excited about that. The "before" photo is from November 2013. Not the start of my journey (I feel corny even saying the word "journey" but I can't think of a better replacement). But honestly. I was getti...

Our Blessed Nest: Avery
http://solkoblessednest.blogspot.com/p/avery.html
Avery Josephine was born in May 2011. At five days old, Avery was admitted to the NICU from home with a dangerously high bilirubin level. While in the hospital, she contracted an antibiotic-resistant blood infection, which led to a three week NICU stay. We are extremely blessed that she left the hospital with no residual effects from either the jaundice or the MRSA infection. Is the best word to use to describe our Avery Jo, however, loud. Our Blessed Nest: 30 weeks
http://solkoblessednest.blogspot.com/2012/09/30-weeks.html
Tuesday, September 25, 2012. Today was Baby's 30-week growth ultrasound. They just do a quick view for measurements to make sure Baby is growing adequately because of my high-risk status. 3 lbs 9 oz (60th percentile). I am pretty stoked about the whole head-down part. My breech baby Bailey never did flip and Avery did around 34 weeks. So I am feeling ahead of the game this time around! Let's go, VBAC #2! Like I said, it was a quick ultrasound, but the tech did print me off a picture or two. This past wee...

Our Blessed Nest: celebrating the 4th
http://solkoblessednest.blogspot.com/2015/07/celebrating-4th.html
Thursday, July 9, 2015. The kids and I spent the 4th of July weekend with my parents and sisters at the lake house in Spirit Lake. Jared had to work the holiday, so he joined the party late on Sunday. My dad had foot surgery to repair a cyst in his bone and two stress fractures, so only a few days post-op, this was his usual position. But with a wife and four daughters around to wait on him (and keep his grumpiness in check), he managed pretty well. We also did some swimming. We played some serious.

Our Blessed Nest: living room re-do
http://solkoblessednest.blogspot.com/2015/07/living-room-re-do.html
Friday, July 3, 2015. Have you ever just lived with something each and every day and never even realized how much you disliked it? Seriously, it was neutral heaven. If we were selling our house on an episode of House Hunters, I'm sure we'd be an HGTV realtor's dream. No crazy colors to look past here! One day I just was walking through and it dawned on me, "Man, I hate our living room.". It's true. I have never liked those curtains. They were a cheap Ebay find and they "got us by.". Picked out and wanted.

Our Blessed Nest: Steel Balls, errr... I mean, Bars
http://solkoblessednest.blogspot.com/2012/04/steel-balls-errr-i-mean-bars.html
Wednesday, April 11, 2012. Steel Balls, errr. I mean, Bars. This summer we will hold the 2nd Annual Random/Slightly-Awkward Ellis Girls Concert Event. Last year it was Meat Loaf. Yes, the same Meat Loaf from the 70s who sang 12-minute-long songs filled with lyrics about bats from Hell and the things he wouldn't do for love. In short it was awesome. Okay, so maybe it wasn't awesome because of him, but we made it awesome nonetheless.}. We kept it classy by pregaming in the parking lot. The entire way down.

Our Blessed Nest: Summer Daze
http://solkoblessednest.blogspot.com/2015/07/summer-daze.html
Friday, July 17, 2015. Summer days are flying by at this point. And while we've done some little trips and quick getaways, we've had some nice quiet moments at home too. I doubt we're ever going to be that family who takes a week-long annual summer vacation to far-away locales. (And contrary to my dad's beliefs from my own childhood summers, no, Minnesota does not count. Like at all.). So we've been enjoying small things around here. Putting on a headband qualifies as dressing up around here.). Both girl...

Bailey Marie was born in February of 2010 at 36 weeks. She spent a week in the NICU, partly because she was born with a right unilateral cleft lip and palate. Our Blessed Nest: Jared & Me
http://solkoblessednest.blogspot.com/p/jared-and-vanessa.html
I grew up on a farm in northwest Iowa with my parents and three younger sisters. My childhood was filled with days of baling hay, pitching manure, and running around barefoot. Jared grew up spending time in both Loveland, Colorado and northwest Kansas. His summers were spent camping and fishing, and he swam on multiple swimming teams year round. We met at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa during our freshman year of college. That all changed in 2005 at a funeral. Yes, a funeral. Hi, I'm Vanessa.
