Far too much writing, far too many photos. Wednesday, September 12, 2001. The day after the events in N.Y.C. A rough night, though not as rough as some other folks had it. This morning I attempted to carry on as I would on a more or less normal day. Went to El Corte Inglés (the major deptartment store chain here) down in la Plaza de la Puerta del Sol, did the first major grocery shop for the new flat. B) Among their other goals, the perpetrators of terrorist acts want to intimidate through fear and disru...

Far too much writing, far too many photos. Travels: Italy, 2003. Tuesday, February 25, 2003. I'm sitting at an internet cafe in a neighborhood north of Termini in Rome, a few blocks from where I'm staying. Have been in Rome less than 24 hours. The high points so far: (a) the food, (b) me speaking Spanish to confuse the Italians who deal with me as if I were an American tourist. (It works.). Oh, never mind.) A large, beautiful bathroom, apart from that one glitch. The collection: pretty interesting. M...

Far too much writing, far too many photos. Events: Holidays, 2004. Sunday, April 11, 2004. People with luggage and backpacks have been everywhere. The presence of French and American tourists has increased drastically, those languages suddenly far more common than normal. Beefed up security concerns have resulted in a much more visible (though surprisingly unintrusive) police presence, especially in the Metro where city cops have joined the numerous private cops for the first time. Where the film plays).

Far too much writing, far too many photos. Friday, July 29, 2005. My first impression of the city's people: wild variety of looks and nationalities, blending together in the streets and Metro in seriously pleasing fashion. Interesting-looking people everywhere, French being spoken all around. A tantalizing place, reminding me of Madrid in the way life seems to take to the streets, restaurants and cafés everywhere, people out enjoying themselves. Updates will follow as possible. Later. When we finally str...

Things you want people to hear about. Places I love to visit. The Lake Champlain Chocolate Blog. The Real Voice - Mel Allen. So much more than Pizza. Saturday, August 15, 2009. So much more than Pizza. So I happened upon something that isn't dessert, but certainly is so much more than Pizza. What I'm talking about is Back Country Pizza. They served up some pies and slices at a COTS fundraiser - and I was happy to imbibe. Well I digress, but keep your eyes on www.7dvt.com. For a bit from the horses mouth.

Far too much writing, far too many photos. Tuesday, March 30, 2004. A funny thing happened on the way to not finishing that last entry: I caught a plane Friday morning, flew up to the U.K. for the weekend. To Stoke-on-Trent, to be exact, in England's midlands. Left a Madrid beginning to cloud over, found myself crammed into the equivalent of a Boeing 727 with a bunch of British football fans, here for a Champions League game between Barcelona. They also call each other Duck. ("Y'allright, Duck? Late Sund...

Far too much writing, far too many photos. Friday, September 10, 2004. Last night, driving through southern Québec: empty two-lanes stretching off between corn fields; dark, quiet towns, all businesses closed. Now and then the glow from lights off in the distance spread illumination upward, reflecting off low cloud cover. Montreal radio stations playing hip-hop tunes in French. Other stations taking phone calls, the voices musical, soothing, easy on the ears. Saturday, September 11, 2004. Tuesday morning...

Far too much writing, far too many photos. Saturday, February 21, 2004. Four short hours ago I found myself waving so long! Ten days of nearly continuous time in the presence of this friend, far too much time to be spending with someone I'm not sleeping with. If you know what I mean. Not that he isn't a terrific guy. He is. Enough's enough is all I'm saying, at least for me. It's going to take time to organize my thoughts re: the following days. For now, suffice it to say there was more than enough o...

Far too much writing, far too many photos. Events: Emergency Room I. Monday, February 18, 2002. A medical type there said, "Dígame." I diga'd. They nodded, took my name, took my blood pressure, told me it was fine, led me to the nearest waiting room - there were several, all lined up next to each other. An omen I might have taken note of if I'd been feeling clearer. Every few seconds. Once in a while she'd reach around, place her hand on one side of her lower back for a moment, saying, "Ayyyy! By this ti...
