Words in Search of Wisdom: A Tale of Two Churches
http://wordsinsearch.blogspot.com/2014/09/a-tale-of-two-churches.html
Words in Search of Wisdom. Monday, September 1, 2014. A Tale of Two Churches. Well, then, what have I been doing in a traditional Southern Baptist Church? Serving the same church for thirty years can make you think the whole world is like that, but it’s not. Being in three different churches the past eight years has been a learning and growing experience for me. God wants, and the world needs, lots of different kinds of churches. David C. George. Words in Search of Wisdom: August 2009
http://wordsinsearch.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Words in Search of Wisdom. Thursday, August 20, 2009. It all comes back to that pathetic entry in Lockhart's diary at Abbotsford: 'He [Sir Walter Scott] then desired to be wheeled through his rooms in the bath-chair. We moved him leisurely for an hour or more up and down the hall and the great library. "I have seen much," he kept saying, "but nothing like my ain hoose—give me one turn more! There is but one! The juxtaposition of phrases is arresting: `In the great library'—'there is but one book! Steven ...

Words in Search of Wisdom: January 2009
http://wordsinsearch.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Words in Search of Wisdom. Friday, January 2, 2009. The Family at Christmas. On Christmas Day, after we opened our gifts, we sat down to eat. All ten of us gathered around our dining room table. Our daughter and son-in-law came from Texas with their two teenage daughters. Our two sons, who live near us in Nashville were here. One of them is married, and his wife and two-year-old son were with him. Jesus said, "I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly (John 14:10, NRSV). David C. George.

Words in Search of Wisdom. Friday, May 22, 2009. Recognizing Those Who Defend Us. The 326th has two of its companies, about 200 troops, in Iraq at present and another company preparing to go back soon. It is also likely that Al and his battalion will be deployed to Afghanistan at some point. As engineers they build roads, bridges, airfields, buildings, and whatever else is needed. They also clear the roads of IEDs (improvised explosive devices). David C. George. Saturday, May 16, 2009. I went home to wai...

Words in Search of Wisdom: Retirement
http://wordsinsearch.blogspot.com/2013/07/retirement.html
Words in Search of Wisdom. Tuesday, July 9, 2013. 8220;What are you doing now that you are retired? I address the pastor-preacher role by pointing out that I have served two churches as interim pastor since retiring, and I am open to doing more of that. I have even taken special training as an intentional interim minister with the Center for Congregational Health. I occasionally have opportunity to fill in for someone in the pulpit, but the supply of preachers in Nashville far exceeds the demand.

Words in Search of Wisdom: April 2010
http://wordsinsearch.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Words in Search of Wisdom. Saturday, April 17, 2010. Cecil Sherman died today. When I heard it, my mind went back almost fifty years. I entered Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in the fall of 1960. One day in chapel, some two years later, the preacher was a young associate from the Texas Baptist Evangelism Department, Cecil Sherman. He was thin, angular, with a sharp mind, and a sharp tongue. I am grateful to God for the life and ministry of Cecil Sherman. David C. George. David C. George.

http://wordsinsearch.blogspot.com/2014/08/a-change-of-plans.html
Words in Search of Wisdom. Monday, August 11, 2014. A Change of Plans. On July 29 I met with my radiation oncologist and began preparations for treatment to commence in late August and continue for nine weeks. This kind of treatment is not too hard on the patient, and I will be able to be active and feel reasonably well during the process. I currently have no pain or other symptoms and can function normally. I expect the treatment to be successful. David C. George. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Words in Search of Wisdom: April 2009
http://wordsinsearch.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Words in Search of Wisdom. Thursday, April 2, 2009. Are there limits to my power? What do I do when I cannot make things go the way I want? What about what other people want? The way he, and others, answer these questions will shape his personality and his life in profound ways. 8221; I pick one and say, “The blue one.” He then looks carefully at both of them and says, “I’m going to play with the blue one, you play with the red one.”.
