Showing Scars: My Everyday is Never "Normal"
http://natalienyquist.com/scars2
My everyday is never normal. It’s recovering from or responding to the latest crisis or setback. Take this last week. I go to physical therapy (for vertigo/balance issues), pleased to be feeling better. I walk on the treadmill, look to the left, and throw up. Twice. Not feeling better. For five days insomnia steals nearly all my energy and patience. Another family member’s insomnia compounds the misery. Frustrating. Discouraging. Mild words for reality. I’m losing ground no matter how hard I ...Many of u...

I love Jesus Christ and the holy, universal Church. Solo parenting sans caffeine. I create through dance, photography, words, and graphite. Academic copyeditor for traditional publishing houses. And push into pain. Why is our world beautiful, and what are we supposed to do about it? Why is our world ugly, and what are we supposed to do about it? The whole world is out there, waiting, just waiting for me. I want to do things I want to walk the rain-soaked streets of London, and drink mint tea in Casablanca.

Lighting candles, praying for sidewalks. February 27, 2015. February 27, 2015. I lit a few thrift-store votive jars tonight at dinner. Flickering lights in those glass jars held my attention throughout that whole meal. I’d taken them down from the shelf this afternoon to wash them. The effect was mesmerizing. The sparkle! Drawing me back to right here, right now, this cliched-but-true spilled milk; these kids complaining because it’s bean soup. Dave here for dinner, thank God. As we as a church will begi...

Do not be afraid … of the word ‘calling’ | Seeking the abundance
https://seekingtheabundance.wordpress.com/2015/04/15/do-not-be-afraid-of-the-word-calling
Do not be afraid … of the word ‘calling’. April 15, 2015. After about an hour of this mental exercise of counting children from where I sat and molding my interpretation of vocation two or three sentences at a time, dirty-mouthed teenagers drove us into the woods. 8221; I cried, peeling some autumnal leaves from the wildflower’s spotted ones. “Just like Mary in. 8221; Alice piped in. I’m not afraid. I’m just giving Buddy some room,” I laughed, my heart pounding in my ears. What’s all this for? Callings: ...

Already and not yet, but the hummingbirds are coming back soon | Seeking the abundance
https://seekingtheabundance.wordpress.com/2015/04/29/already-and-not-yet-but-the-hummingbirds-are-coming-back-soon
Already and not yet, but the hummingbirds are coming back soon. April 29, 2015. My hip hurts, too, Jacob: that’s all I can say. God’s wrestled me into a season of being still — quite literally now that I haven’t run in a bit — and I’m craving the wrestling-with, the running-out, the time alone on a trail. The sound of birds and girls laughing … and then the sound of three bickering over two swings: already and not yet. 8220;I get to go to kindergarten tomorrow! Now I’m five! I really should’ve been...

We can laugh about it now … | Seeking the abundance
https://seekingtheabundance.wordpress.com/2015/05/26/we-can-laugh-about-it-now
We can laugh about it now …. May 26, 2015. 8220;Wow. You guys really wanted to move to Michigan,” a friend laughed. We all laughed at how ridiculous it sounds, looking back. Trust me, at the time, it felt really, really ridiculous. Which was a cardboard box,. Sat a book by Malcolm Gladwell about. And he’s like, ‘Hey, the kids aren’t here,’. And the air mattress is almost touching the floor, and I’m. Sometimes the details in the moment can overshadow what God’s up to on a grand scale. Sometimes the things...
