Friday, April 15, 2011. Today Major League Baseball and fans around the world celebrate Jackie Robinson Day. It was on this day in 1947 that Jackie took the field for the Brooklyn Dodgers and broke the color barrier in baseball. He went hitless in his debut against the Boston Braves. but changed the game forever. Thanks Jackie. Ticket stub fro Jackie's first game. 1955 Topps Double Header. Friday, April 15, 2011. the design morgue: Happy New Year from the American Oil Company

Saturday, December 31, 2011. Happy New Year from the American Oil Company. To all the readers and followers of The Design Morgue, we wish everyone a happy and a healthy New Year. Last year at this time we took a look at one of my favorite illustrators, J.C. Leyendecker, and his New Year's babies for The Saturday Evening Post. It's interesting to note that Leyendecker's work for The Saturday Evening Post came before Rockwell and here Rockwell's work appeared first. Saturday, December 31, 2011.

the design morgue: Happy Hanukkah - 1944 style
http://thedesignmorgue.blogspot.com/2011/12/happy-hanukkah-1944-style.html
Tuesday, December 20, 2011. Happy Hanukkah - 1944 style. Happy Hanukkah to all my Jewish readers out there. The above Hanukkah greeting is post marked December 26, 1944. These postcards were apparently supplied to Jewish servicemen by the USO. It's interesting to note that this card had to pass through Army censorship as noted by the stamps on the back. Monday, October 17, 2011. 1966 Birds Eye Ladies' Guide to Football. I recently got this interesting booklet on ebay. It's the 1966 Birds Eye Ladies' Guide to Football. It was written by Pat Kiely and produced by National Football League Properties. The booklet was free with the purchase of any two Birds Eye vegetables. To booklet has a 1960's Pop Art, almost School House Rock, look to it. I really like the NFL uniforms on the following pages. The important game day recipes. Monday, October 17, 2011.

Thursday, March 31, 2011. Even though there's a chance of snow in New York City tonight, a true sign that spring is finally here is today is opening day for the 2011 MLB season. After 100 years of tradition, this season will not be marked by the President of the United States throwing out the first pitch. Last year's performance by President Barack Obama was less than perfect. Baseball great Bob Uecker called the pitch, "just a bit outside.". Bush Sr. 1989. Thursday, March 31, 2011. Piece of the Pie: July 2010
http://piece-of-the-pie.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 26, 2010. This weekend Jon and I went to dinner with his brother Jason and his girlfriend. After dinner we walked to the car and could hear the fireworks in the distance. We spotted a parking garage and decided to see if we could see the fireworks from there. We were in luck. We watched the show and it was awesome. No crowds and no traffic to fight with afterwards. Plus there was the fabulous atmosphere of downtown. Thursday, July 1, 2010. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Jeri - Budget Menu.

Monday, May 10, 2010. We got to Coalville, drove down the main street and just kept driving to see where the road would take us. We drove around Echo Reservoir, which was pretty cool at night. Plus it was slightly stormy so the sky was full of cool clouds. I didn't really get any pictures since I was driving. But we did end up driving into the town of Echo and came across these two spots. We stopped and I took a couple of quick pictures. Labels: Jon and Bekah. Sun and the Beach. Since I was there for wor...
