Red Dirt Wood Shop

Don't forget your fellow craftsmen. This post is about screwing. So, do you remember my last post about my new 144 year old moving fillister. While I was gone, I bought this beauty off eBay. After inspecting what remained of the screw, I was flabbergasted. Where was I going to find a suitable match for a 144 year old cast iron screw? All of this to say, don't forget your fellow craftsmen. They are working hard to perfect their craft just like you are, and I am sure they would love your business. As alway...

Red Dirt Wood Shop: Marking gauge posse

http://reddirtwoodshop.blogspot.com/2010/11/marking-gauge-posse.html

I started wood working with a Stanley combo square and a pencil. Not long into my journey, I decided to upgrade to a marking gauge. Enter the made in India HF $7 mortise gauge. I don't mean to say it was a huge design flaw, it held most of the time. but occasionally it would slip. By far my favorite at this point, but still had its issues. Then I read an article in Popular Woodworking. Took me a few times to figure it out, but I ended up making one big wedge and cutting 1/4" slices off of it. Beautyful a...

Red Dirt Wood Shop: What I've been up to

http://reddirtwoodshop.blogspot.com/2010/12/what-ive-been-up-to.html

What I've been up to. I was playing Mr. mom Thanksgiving night/ Black Friday morning since the wifey was at WM at 10pm to get a jump start on the holiday shopping thing she loves to do every year. The kids where in bed asleep, and I was in the shop on the computer when I received a Tweet from @RenaissanceWW. Announcing a Black Friday sale on membership to The Hand Tool School. 20% off. How could I pass this up? Labels: hand tool school. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). There was an error in this gadget.

Red Dirt Wood Shop: March 2011

http://reddirtwoodshop.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

When we left off last time I was plodding along on the Hand Tool School lessons. I am still. I am only two and a half lessons behind now. First there were the Bench Hooks. Then the chisel storage, I needed to get these Two Cherries out of their box anyhow. Then the miter box. 90* is dead on the two 45*'s though, well close enough for the next project. The miter shooting board. This one came out dead on. That my wife got me for Christmas. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). There was an error in this gadget.

Sunday, May 31, 2015. MWA 5 Questions - Brian McCauley. After our wonderful interview with Brian McCauley. We stayed around the mics and went through our 5 questions. One of Brian's beautiful tables. Brian's answers prompted a fun discussion ranging from tools to styles to the work of Art Carpenter. Unfortunately, Art's book, Education of a Woodsmith. Appears to be out of print. I highly recommend you pick up a copy at Lee Valley. While you can, as I can't quite endorse the $299.00 price tag on Amazon.
