The Things That Make Us Happy Make Us Wise. Domestic Hedonism at Its Paleo-Fabian Best. January 17, 2011. Dip each leaf in the melted paraffin, being sure to cover it completely. Let them cool on a large sheet of butcher’s paper–the most versatile craft supply ever. Use baker’s twine–or any old string, really, but I like the juxtaposition of butcher, baker, and candle[stick]maker–to create a garland that suits you. Astute readers (if any readers are left! Living proof of my Quaker Oats weekend | PastaQueen

Living proof of my Quaker Oats weekend. November 10, 2008 at 7:35 am. I ditched my 10 year high school reunion this weekend to hang out with my new boyfriend Larry. We sowed some oats together this weekend in Chicago. Is it weird that he never took off his hat? Oat-kay, I might be exaggerating, but he is. Actually nicknamed Larry by the Quaker Oats staff.). Please note the $7.00 bottle of Fiji water. There was a meet and greet in the bar that night and then a dinner which included chocolate sushi. Th...

A bit of fluff (with pretentions): June 2012
http://painfullyfluffy.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
A bit of fluff (with pretentions). Straucht fra' the coo since 2001. Sunday, June 10, 2012. My sister starts chemotherapy tomorrow for advanced stomach cancer. My parents are there with her, I'm 6,000 miles away. We are all terrified. I am living in limbo, waiting to hear more news. Hoping for good news after a month of bad to worse, hoping for an easy and effective course of chemo. Hoping for another year. Or five. Twenty would be even nicer. Links to this post. Molly Update | Plattie
https://plattie.wordpress.com/2008/08/20/molly-update
August 20, 2008 in Uncategorized. The only thing that stops Molly crying when she’s in the cat box is the sound of my voice. Which is sweet and flattering, but likely to make people think I’m a crazy lady. This evening I walked through our neighbourhood, the cat box under my arm, muttering multiplication tables through the grille to a panicking cat. It was all I could think of! Hahahahahaha. I know, right? A urine sample from a cat? Scratching my closed eyelids. When she wants her breakfast. AT FIVE ...

The Things That Make Us Happy Make Us Wise. Domestic Hedonism at Its Paleo-Fabian Best. Cheap is Good. Cold is Good. July 25, 2010. What you see above is a truly great discovery: the easiest, fastest, and most delicious homemade ice cream I have ever made. I found it on Shelterrific. Before I do the ice cream explanation, though, check this out. If you are spending a fortune (modest or Rockefellerian) on cold coffee drinks from any source whatsoever, you need to know this: I’ve got you covered. Whisk all...

June 1: Last day! June 1st, 2016. I got up at 5 AM so I could go back to Santa Fe Canyon and see birds — hoping for a Pinyon Jay at least. No luck on that, but I did get a Juniper Titmouse. This brings me to 42 lifers on this trip, and I think that’s all. I did get some nice looks at various birds while hiking the canyon. Like this Broad-Tailed Hummingbird. Sobering to think that it’s the place where the world’s first nuclear bomb was made. Did they speed the end of WWII? Finally, there were all her grea...

Post Office Woe | Plattie
https://plattie.wordpress.com/2008/08/15/post-office-woe
August 15, 2008 in Uncategorized. The thing I dislike the most about my new job is the lack of a good post office nearby. It sounds like a stupid thing to say, but I like having a post office I can rely on. Near my old job there was a really big, efficient one where everything ran smoothly and nothing ever went astray. And I need somewhere to dispatch my reciprocal boxes of Dairy Milk and HobNobs. Eventually, I overcame my inner restrained-Brit, and said ‘Excuse me, can you serve me please? I have not to...
