Reflections

Thursday, December 2, 2010. Wait, What Are We Doing? I’m writing this now as Christmas, and all the shopping that comes along with it, is before us and fills our thoughts and much of our free time. It is a fun and crazy time of year, and honestly, I rather love the craziness. I am just as guilty as anyone in getting caught up in the over-the-top gift giving, crafting, decorating, cooking, baking, and hosting and attending holiday parties. For me, all that is fun. As a Christian it can be a hard time.

Reflections: October 2009

http://reflectionsexpeditionsinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 4, 2009. No, not often, not in a 'bad' way anyway. I am a 'good' person after all." That is what I normally think, and that is why, in my "heart of hearts," I am jaded to the wonder of the cross. I don’t think I’m all that bad. If we think we are good, then we have no need for a savior and Jesus doesn’t make sense. You might tip your hat to that, say “thank you kindly sir” and be on your way. I’m guilty of it. I’ve known it for a while. In the movie, the character of John Cauphy (not sure...

Reflections: GOD HEALS

http://reflectionsexpeditionsinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2009/09/god-heals.html

Tuesday, September 8, 2009. Praise His holy name! My friend in Tanzania (Casey) who I had the vision about (see the posts titles "Peace" and "Encourage") just sent out an email telling the amazing things that God has been doing in Tanzania through her and others! Continue reading below to read parts of her latest update . . . and be encouraged! Now I can share my favorite story from our time in the village: GOD’S HEALING POWER! High witchcraft and Muslim population. We also got to do medical ministry wit...

Reflections: August 2009

http://reflectionsexpeditionsinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 24, 2009. I was reading this. Devotional online and I found this comment on the devotional to be very interesting and, I believe, true. I post it for you to reflect on. Here it is:. August 22, 2009 10:20 AM. Thursday, August 13, 2009. 160;It's like I'm in a cloud of warmth and love, with nothing to fear.  With this peace, I knew that my friends were well, and well loved, and I understood a little bit more about how Christian martyrs can often be completely. Expeditions in the Kitchen: Don't Forget the Ice Cream!

http://expeditionsinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2010/11/dont-forget-ice-cream.html

Don't Forget the Ice Cream! As you know from my last post, Scott and I have been quite busy as of late. One of the things that kept us the busiest outside of work has been our lawn. We have an honest to goodness lawn in our backyard now! It took a lot of time and effort along the way though. First, we had to rake and rake in order to clear the ground for grass seed. We had about 5 years worth of packed leaves all over our yard and it took three. I made it to go with some apple crisp that I had made and w...

Like an artist stews over his painting, wondering what brushstroke is missing that will bring it from a painting to a living masterpiece, so I fuss over what I am cooking, adding this and that to get what I desire out of it.  In both processes there is experimentation, risk, frustration, pleasure, presentation, and (hopefully) great satisfaction.".

Expeditions in the Kitchen: December 2009

http://expeditionsinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Balsamic Feta and Walnut Vinaigrette. I hope you all had a Merry Christmas! Amazingly, Scott and I made it home to our parents’ for Christmas just in time to miss the “worst winter storm in ten years” after whirlwind trips all across the country for residency interviews. We were at my parents’ house for three whole days (the longest we had stayed anywhere in awhile) and we were only there that long because the storm snowed us in and we couldn’t make it to Scott’s parents! I was in charge of the food for ...

Expeditions in the Kitchen: July 2010

http://expeditionsinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Boy it’s been a long time and a lot has happened since I last wrote! I’m having trouble writing about anything in detail since it has been so long. If I expounded on southern tea parties (actual tea parties, not the political tea party), or the range of emotions one feels when looking for the. Job, or heat and humidity so bad that after thirty, no,. So, ready for this fast-forward update? Scott graduated from medical school. Me in the lab. The girls and I. Expeditions in the Kitchen: Deer and a Caterpillar

Deer and a Caterpillar. Ok, maybe “devastated” is too strong a word, but we were. How could someone do this to us? We had battled hard to give our plants life. We almost lost our hydrangea in the heat of July, but through an emergency transplant surgery and valiant watering efforts we were able to bring it back. We were so proud when it seemed to make a full recovery! With no chance of living their fullest life! Equal rights for all! Wait, are we still talking about plants? I bought the one that was &#82...

Expeditions in the Kitchen: Quick

http://expeditionsinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2010/11/quick.html

I do not know where to start! So much has happened since I last posted! I started my job as a research/administrative assistant for an anesthesiology research group at UNC almost two months ago. I have had my ups and my downs at work but hopefully things will get better as I get used to them. The downside to working, and being married to a Medicine resident, is that I have had no time to blog! I know, shocking! That if he can make it, then it. No lie, no eggs, no butter, no oil. Simple and delish&#46...

Expeditions in the Kitchen: February 2011

http://expeditionsinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Fun and revelry with Spaghetti and Meatballs. January was a wonderful month for Scott and I. He was on an ambulatory rotation which means that he worked 8:00AM-5:00PM Monday through Friday and that he got weekends off! Over Martin Luther King weekend, we even jetted up to New York City! It was Scott’s first time there so I had to try to show him as much as possible! A walk through Chinatown. Papaya King hotdogs, chili fries, and fruit smoothie- yum! The Cross discovered at Ground Zero. It was so much fun...
