The Reluctant Retiree Abroad

The Reluctant Retiree Abroad. Sunday, 12 April 2015. Humpless Humpridge: On the "Rail Trail" to Waitutu Lodge. I don't know what you think of when you imagine a rail trail but I envision a wide, flat track with a gravel base fit for cyclists or hikers walking two abreast. Not that. Ever mentions "cyclists" when they describe the rail trail part of our second-day hike up to Waitutu Lodge. The rail bed, ties and all. The wet rail trail. We are slogging through mud and water! So, no bridge then? The descent...

The Reluctant Retiree Abroad: New Zealand...... Again!

http://reluctantretireeabroad.blogspot.com/2015/03/new-zealand-again.html

The Reluctant Retiree Abroad. Wednesday, 18 March 2015. New Zealand. Again! In 2012 Bruce and I spent 6 weeks in New Zealand, and I wrote enthusiastically about our memorable visit. We went hiking, visited friends and escaped the Canadian winter. It was our longest visit since living in Wellington in the 1970's. No complaints this year, however! The South Island where we were starting our visit was gloriously sunny and summery. What a great view. We had some South Island hiking planned and we were happy ...

The Reluctant Retiree Abroad. Friday, 6 April 2012. Why I Love New Zealand: 10 Reasons. Here, in no particular order are 10 reasons why I love New Zealand:. The landscape is magnificent and extremely varied. Mountains, hills, grasslands, ocean - New Zealand has it all. (It's as if everyone in Canada got to live in Vancouver.) And, there is added value in exotic extras like volcanoes and bubbling mud! Love those flat whites! Coffee is a serious business in New Zealand! Gum tree in bloom. Walk in the New Z...

The Reluctant Retiree Abroad: On the Humpridge Track: Tuatapere to Port Craig

http://reluctantretireeabroad.blogspot.com/2015/03/on-humpridge-track-tuatapere-to-port.html

The Reluctant Retiree Abroad. Wednesday, 18 March 2015. On the Humpridge Track: Tuatapere to Port Craig. Hiking in the New Zealand bush is one of our favourite activities but our unfit Canadian winter bodies were not really ready for major tramping. We had a plan, however. Knowing that the NZ Department of Conservation (DOC) rates their tramping tracks, we considered our options: Walking tracks, Easy Tramping tracks, Tramping tracks, or Routes. It would only take two days and we could return on a jet boat.

The Reluctant Retiree Abroad. Thursday, 29 March 2012. Christchurch: Life Goes On, and Sometimes It's Better. Bamboozle: Asian fusion at its best. Here we are with Fran and Brian at the brilliantly named Bamboozle restaurant, the one that has had three different locations in the past year because of successive earthquakes. The bright side of trauma? Bamboozle seems to have heard the message loud and clear. Tuesday, 27 March 2012. Christchurch: Signs of Life. Hope grows in a toppled wall. At the Ellerslie...

I am one of the thousands of seniors that woke up one morning, went to work and was told that my services were no longer needed. BAM! Just like that I lost my livelihood and as it turned out all my workplace "friends". This website will address some issues that we "reluctant retirees" face that the so called Planned retirees haven't had to deal wit. I plan to bring some information and laughter into this new and wonderful. Get the latest on world news but it will give you some smiles. What Works For Me.

Reluctant Risktaking

A journey in trusting God. Wednesday, 4 April 2012. How much more can I take? Usually this is a comment of despair; the balance between circumstances and resources seeming strained beyond breaking point. It is this balance of circumstances that has brought me back to blogging after a shameful delay. A bit about circumstances: life is busy. This is something that everyone knows, but perhaps it most evident to first time parents. This new person in their lives takes creates a mountain of work. A few of the...

Saturday, October 05, 2013. Where Are They Now. So, I started thinking about the blog I use to write, the one that was started in order to stay in contact with one of my favourite people - who has since gone on to other things. I was the first on my team to ride, so I got to experience the “mass start.”. Left: just before the start of the race; Right: my race number! So, what do riders do in between their laps?
