Here is some solar eye candy from the eclipse on May 20 (we watched this in a remote area of southern Utah) and the Venus transit of June 5 (as seen from the observatory atop the Physics Building at Georgia Tech in Atlanta). Enjoy! That little black dot on the sun is Venus. If you look closely you will see some sunspots near the center. We are near a sunspot maximum so there has been plenty of activity. Action sh...

Looks like Sunday alcohol sales will be legal in Georgia, at least in some jurisdictions that actually allowed a vote on the matter. Finally! How absurd the whole thing is. These are all from our last full day on vacation and were taken in the subalpine region near Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park. Lets just say it was a terrific vacation. PA has Sunday sales via bars but you are restricted to how many six packs you can get. However, this of course, doesnt allow for wine and or hard liquor sales of the carry-out variety! Still a bit behind the times, arent we? The alcohol referendum easily passed in my county, but does not take effect until May 1 for some reason. Holes in the Road.
